Applications are invited for the Summer Internship under Internship Certificate Programme
of the GEER Foundation. The ‘Interns’ shall have an opportunity to gain valuable experience
and exposure in the fields of Ecological Education and Research. The internship duration will
be of 4 (four) weeks from 15/05/2023. The programme details along with application form is
available on our website. Duly filled applications should be sent in in hard copy only to the
address as mentioned in the programme document. Applications should reach on or before
28/04/2023 during the office hours.

Internship Certificate Programme


About GEER Foundation

Gujarat Ecological Education and Research (GEER) Foundation is an autonomous


organisation established in 1982 by Forest and Environment Department, Gujarat
State. Ecological Education and Research are two primary areas which summarize
GEER Foundation’s scope of work. The GEER Foundation conducts and facilitates
scientific research and studies as well as educational programmes to enhance the
knowledge base and awareness regarding ecology as whole. The Foundation also
has state-of-the-art Ecological Research & Monitoring Laboratory. The Foundation
also manages Indroda Nature Park, Aranya Udhyan in Gandhinagar and
Hingolgadh Wildlife Sanctuary in Rajkot District. The GEER Foundation carries out
various ecological education activities such as experience based Nature Education
Camps, trainings, workshops, seminars and awareness programmes. The
Foundation is recognised as Scientific and Industrial Research Organisation
(SIROs) by Department of Science and Technology, Government of India and also a
member of reputed organisations like International Union for Conservation of
Nature (IUCN), Standing Committee for National Board of Wildlife, State Board of
Wildlife, Gujarat Coastal Zone Management Authority (GCZMA), Indian Society of
Remote Sensing, etc. The GEER Foundation is also a Nodal Agency for Gujarat
State Wetland Authority.

The Programme

The GEER Foundation has formulated the “Internship Certificate Programme”


for students and the programme seeks to engage students with Graduation / Post
Graduation Degrees from recognized university / institution within India or abroad
as “Interns”. These interns shall be inducted at GEER Foundation office at
Gandhinagar.

These interns would be expected to supplement the process of analyzing within the
Foundation and its other formation through empirical collection and collation of in-
house and other information. For the interns the exposure to the functioning of the
GEER Foundation and its other formations may be an add-on in furthering their
future interests.
1. Name of the Programme: “Internship Certificate Programme”

2. Purpose: To allow short-term exposure to selected candidates with different


divisions and work culture of the GEER Foundation and related institutions as
interns. A list of programmes within which internship is available is enclosed as
Annexure-A.

3. Objectives of the Programme: The Programme has following objectives:

3.1 To allow young academic talent to be associated with the GEER


Foundation’s work for mutual benefit.
3.2 The ‘Interns’ shall have an opportunity to gain valuable experience
and exposure in the field of Ecological Education, Ecological
Research, Wildlife Research and Management, Inland Wetland
Ecology, Marine Ecology, Climate Change, Zoo Animals Care and
Management and Ecological Laboratory Techniques.

4. Internship

4.1 Eligibility: Bonafide students of any recognized University /


Institutions within India or abroad fulfilling following conditions are
eligible to apply for the internship.
(a) Applicants should have Botany, Zoology, Chemistry,
Microbiology, Biotechnology, Life Sciences, Environment
Science, Wildlife, Forestry, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry,
Agriculture, Climate Change as one of the optional subject in
their degree programme.
(b) Applicants should have completed Graduation in the above
subject with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks or pursuing
Graduation and appeared in their second year or fourth
semester exam and secured minimum of 55% aggregate marks
in the last exam.
Or
Applicants should have completed Post Graduation in the
above subject with a minimum of 55% aggregate marks or
pursuing Post Graduation and appeared in their first year or
second semester exam and secured minimum of 55% aggregate
marks in the last exam.

4.2 Internship Schedule: The internship shall be conducted twice in a


year wiz Summer Internship and Winter Internship. Interested
applicants can apply for Summer Internship (June / July) or Winter
Internship (November / December).

4.3 A candidate can apply for the internship only once during a financial
year.
4.4 Period: The internship will be for a period of 4 (Four) Weeks from the
date of joining.

4.5 Certificate: A certificate regarding successful completion of


internship shall be issued by the GEER Foundation in the enclosed
format as available at Annexure-C. Interns not completing the
requisite period will not be issued any certificate.

5. Procedure for Applicants

5.1 Interested Applicants may apply with respect to the advertisement


given by the GEER Foundation either for Summer Internship or
Winter Internship.
5.2 The interns shall have the option to apply in one programme only as
mentioned in Annexure-A. In case, any application(s) received for more
than one available internship programme, then it will be the
prerogative of the GEER Foundation to nominate the programme from
the programmes mentioned by the intern.
5.3 Applicants shall fill in all the details in Application Form enclosed as
Annexure-D and will attach all required relevant supporting
documents and send it to the address as given in paragraph 5.4.
5.4 The application super scribed with “Internship Certificate
Programme” must reach to The Director, Gujarat Ecological
Education and Research (GEER) Foundation, Ecological
Education Division, Indroda Nature Park, Post Office Sector – 7,
Gandhinagar – 382007.
5.5 Any application if found incorrect/incomplete will be rejected without
giving any reason.
5.6 The selected applicant has to produce original mark sheets and NOC
(as per Annexure-B) from the college / institution at the time of
interview / joining, failing which his / her candidature shall be
cancelled.

7. Procedure for Selection

7.1 All the applications received will be forwarded to the internal Scrutiny
and Selection Committee constituted for the selection of interns. The
applications will be scrutinized on “Merit” basis and eligible
candidates will be shortlisted and called for the interview if required.
7.2 The GEER Foundation can take a maximum of 2 (two) interns per
programme as per Annexure-A for internship at a time. After selection
of the candidates, selected candidates would be informed through
formal communication from the GEER Foundation.
7.3 Depending upon the number of applications received against a
particular programme, the GEER Foundation reserves the right to fix
the eligibility criteria, limit the number of applicants and / or decide
about the mode screening thereof.
7.4 Selected candidates would have to join the internship as per the
joining date mentioned for the internship.
7.5 Applications from the applicants who have already completed
internship scheme, irrespective of the disciplines, in the GEER
Foundation shall not be entertained.
7.6 The decision of the Scrutiny and Selection Committee shall be final in
any given situation.

8. Terms of Reference:

8.1 Interns will be required to have their own laptops. The GEER
Foundation will provide them working space, internet facility and
other necessities as deemed fit by the GEER Foundation.
8.2 Interns have to make their own arrangements for boarding / lodging,
transportation etc. during the internship at Gandhinagar.
8.3 GEER Foundation will not be responsible for any mishap/undesirable
loss to any intern while working in the field or office.
8.4 The work will be assigned by Director, GEER Foundation or an
authorised representative nominated by him.
8.5 The concerned Programme Head shall be responsible for ensuring
that the work and output mutually agreed upon with the intern is
satisfactorily completed. Interns shall be required to submit a brief
report/paper at the end of their assignment to the Programme Head
about their learning experience which will be graded by the concerned
Programme Head from A-D (A for excellent, B for Good, C for Average
and D for Poor).
8.6 It may be strictly observed that the conduct of the interns and their
access to data shall be the sole responsibility of the concerned
Programme Heads only.
8.7 The data collected during the internship work cannot be shared with
any person or agency other than Director, GEER Foundation or an
authorised representative nominated by him.
8.8 This internship will not lead to any kind of partial fulfilment of any
academic compliance.
8.9 The interns will not have any claim for job in GEER Foundation or
any other organisations under its administrative control or its other
formations.

9. Attendance: While doing internship in GEER Foundation, the intern should


have minimum 95% attendance and they have to mark In and Out time on
daily basis. In case of less than 95% attendance no extension of internship
period is allowed and no certificate will be issued. The attendance record and
the details of work supervision shall be maintained by the concerned
Programme Head.

10. Expectations from Interns: The interns during their internship (as per
intern’s relevant programme):
10.1 Undertake the field visits to gather field data on flora, fauna, water,
soil / sediments etc. and also data compilation, data analyses and
interpretation for the collected field data under the supervision and
guidance of mentor with whom the interns are attached with.
10.2 Contributing to project / scheme report writing
10.3 Laboratory based analyses of various environmental parameters.
10.4 Assist in Wildlife Veterinary Care and Management in Indroda Nature
Park Zoo
10.5 Any other tasks assigned as per the needs and project / scheme
demands.

11. What benefits an Intern may get? The interns will be benefited by;

• Field research experience


• Learn how ecological / biodiversity / wildlife studies are conducted
scientifically.
• Learn how to collect, compile, analyse and interpret data.
• Learn how to identify flora and fauna species.
• Hands on experience of lab-based analyses.
• Knowledge and experience of veterinary works for wild animals
(mammals, birds etc.)
• Knowledge and experience in nature education activities.
• Opportunity to spend time in the best known natural sites of Gujarat.

12. Stipend / allowances: The interns will not be paid any stipend and/or any
allowances during the internship period at GEER Foundation.

13. Programme Review: The GEER Foundation reserves the right to review the
programme from time to time.

14. Power to Relax: The GEER Foundation shall have the power to relax /
redefine any of the conditions mentioned above in respect of any deserving
candidate at any time without giving any reason.
