following questions:
o What were some repeated words in the clip?

Main Activity: Word Stress

- Teacher to define “Word Stress” and explain how in English, we do not say each
syllable with the same force or strength. Rather, in one word, we accentuate one syllable very
loudly and the other syllables very quietly.
- Students to pronounce “photograph”, “photography” and “photographic” and
demonstrate drawing stress patterns based on these three words.
- Teacher to select students to draw stress patterns on the board for the following words
and correct misunderstandings:
o Red
o Dollar
o Receive
o Quantity
o Computer
o Guarantee
o Technology
o Contribution

Group Activity: Get Out Of The Maze

- Teacher to divide students into 4 groups, based on ability. Teacher to explain that
students will have to apply what they have just learnt about identifying syllables and word
stresses to complete an activity.
- Each group to be given a maze and issued the following instructions:
o Follow the correct sequence of words to make your way from the start of the maze to
the finish
o The first group to make their way out and verifies their answer with the teacher wins.
- After the first two groups have completed, the game ends. These groups to share their
answers and pronounce the words loudly in front of the class.
