The document provides an overview of lesson 1 in a science unit on force and motion. It includes the lesson objectives of having students observe and measure an object's motion to recognize patterns that can predict future motion. Key vocabulary words defined are position, distance, direction, motion, and speed.

Vocabulary Words
Position: It is the location of an object, or where something is
located. You can use the words like above, below, next to, far away from to describe the position of an object. An example of position is a cup between two other cups on a table. Distance: The amount of space between two objects or places is distance. Millimeters, centimeters, meters and kilometers are examples of units used in the metric system to measure distance. How far from each other two points or places are. a point or place that is far away.
Direction: Direction is defined as the path that something takes, the
path that must be taken to reach a specific place. Direction tells which way a line points from one object or place to another. The words north, south, east, and west describe direction. You can also use words such as left, right, up, down, forward, and backward to describe direction.
An example of direction is when you go right instead of left
Motion: In science, motion is a change in position compared to a place or an object that is not moving. Motion is a kind of puzzle because every object in the universe is in motion. It is the process of changing position.
Speed : It is the measure of how fast or slow something moves. An
object that is moving fast goes a distance in a short amount of time. It takes a longer time for a slower object to move the same distance. Distance and time can be used to find speed.
