Decimal/Fraction/Percent Conversion Rules

Grade 7 Math
1. Decimal to Percent
- Multiply by 100 and add a percent sign
- Example: 0.25 is 25%

2. Percent to Decimal
- Divide by 100
- Example: 35.2% is 0.352

3. Fraction to Decimal
-Divide the numerator by the denominator
-Example: 2/20 is 0.1

4. Decimal to Fraction
-SAY THE NUMBER!
-Example: 0.465…we say 465 thousandths, so it is
465/1000
-Example: 1.89…we say one and 89 hundredths, so it is
89

5. Fraction to Percent
-Change it to a decimal, then multiply by 100
-Example: 2/20 is 0.1 x 100= 10%

6. Percent to Fraction
- Divide by 100, then SAY THE NUMBER
-Example: 27.5% ÷ 100 = 0.275
We say, 275 thousandths, so the fraction is 275/1000

7. Changing a mixed fraction to an improper fraction


- Multiply the whole number by the denominator then
add the numerator. Keep the denominator the same!

- Example: 4 5 … 4 x 5 + 3= 23, so it is 23/5

8. Changing an improper fraction to a mixed


-Divide the numerator by the denominator, write down
the whole number answer, then write down any
remainder above the denominator.
-Example: 10/9…9 goes into 10 once with a remainder
of 1 which is placed over 9
