GROUP ASSIGNMENT

Due date:

1. 6% bentonite is to be mixed to Class H cement using normal mixing water.

Determine:
a. The weight of bentonite required (lb/sk)
b. Total Water Requirement (gal/sk)
c. Slurry Yield (cuft/sk)
d. Slurry density (lb/gal)

2. The 13-3/8” surface casing of a well is to be cemented to surface with a single stage
cementing operation using Class G cement + 6% bentonite. The details are:

13- 3/8” 72 lb/ft casing set at 5100’

17-1/2” open hole depth 5130’
Shoetrack 60 ft
20” casing shoe depth 1800’
Allow 20% excess in open hole

Calculate the following:

a. Yield of Slurry
b. Total Volume of Slurry Required (cuft)
c. No. of cement sacks required
d. Total volume of water required (bbl)
e. No of sacks of additive and total weight of additive required (lb).
CEMENTING CALCULATION

1. Weight of additive to be added

to a sack of cement (lb/sk)
2. Volume of water required per
sack of cement (gal/sk)
3. Volume of cement slurry per
sack of cement (gal/sk)

4. Slurry Yield (ft3/sk)

5. Slurry Density (ppg)

6. Annular capacity (ft3/ft)

7. Casing capacity (ft3/ft)

8. Casing capacity (bbl/ft)

9.
Total volume of slurry [Slurry volume to fill the annulus from TOC to depth of
required (cuft) shoetrack + Slurry volume to fill the rathole + Slurry volume to
fill inside of shoetrack] x Excess
10. No of sacks of cement
required

11. No of sacks of additives

12. Total weight of additive

required (lb)
13. Total volume of water
required (gal)
14. Definition:
= Volume of water required for cement (gal/sk)
= Volume of water required for additive (gal/sk)
= Specific gravity of cement
= Specific gravity of additive

Dh = Hole diameter (in)

Dp = Casing OD (in)
ID = Casing inner diameter (in)
