I’m going to introduce one of the artworks of Vincent Van Gogh which is called the “Sorrow”.

It
was made in 1882 using the medium such as pen, pencil, and ink on the paper and was now displayed in
an art gallery located in England. The theme of this drawing reflects the name of the artwork as it
conveys the problems and struggles in life of a person. The inspiration or the model shown on the
drawing is a woman whom Van Gogh had met wandering around the street along with her daughter. I
have chosen this artwork since it reminded me of how I have encountered and handled every challenge
in life and learn from my mistakes and realize that our defeat isn’t really a bad thing since it will make us
more determined.

For the first question, “what part of the life of Vincent Van Gogh can you relate to and why?”, so
as I said earlier our defeat earlier would make us more resolute and decisive in the future. If I can relate
it to the early years of Vincent Van Gogh’s life, even though his parents hoped for better professions for
him and failed on those jobs which really disappointed his parents, he still did not back down and
sticked to his passion and followed his brother’s advice to become an artist. This was also the case for
me since I insist on becoming a civil engineer despite of my mom’s preference for me to work in another
course. Sometimes, we just need to believe in ourselves in realizing our own goals and dreams and
follow what our heart says because at the end of the day, we’re still in control of ourselves and will
make the decisions which will change our fate.

For the second question, “what part of the life of Vincent Van Gogh particularly affected one of
his artwork and why?”, it was stated that the works of Post-impressionist and Impressionist artists, as
well as the influence of landscape and sunlight, gave him more inspiration on his artworks. Thus, the
artworks produced by Van Gogh during his stay in Paris mostly convey a theme of God’s natural world.
One of the example of artworks produced by Van Gogh around that year is the first series of the painting
called “Sunflowers” which was made using oil on canvas and also depicted the scenery of his
surroundings, wherein the flowers are lying on the ground.
