ABSTRACT

The study was conducted to compare the effectiveness of pomelo (Citrus maxima) and the

commercial mosquito repellant of mosquitoes. Further, it sought to determine the best pomelo extract

concentration in the repellence of mosquitoes. This study was conducted at Barangay Pasonanca

ZAMBOANGA CITY. Pomelo (Citrus maxima) shows great mosquito repellent activity due to its major

active constituent, Limonene and flavonoids in this study, the researchers formulate mosquito larvae

repellent from pomelo (Citrus maxima) peel extract in three concentrations (25%, 50%, and 80%)

Blending the pomelo was the process used to extract the Pomelo peels (Citrus maxima) Mosquito larvae

for the repellency testing were collected from stagnant waters and were put in different containers

provided with a small screen bond on top then after 2hrs of exposure of the test cups to the different

treatment the data were collected by the number of dead larvae in each test cups. Analysis of Variance

(ANOVA) was used for statistical treatment. The research findings showed the effects of the different

treatments in repelling mosquitoes are highly significant. Furthermore, the 80% pomelo peeling extract

concentration and commercial mosquito repellant are not significantly different from each other. It

concluded that the different treatments of the pomelo peeling extract concentration can repel mosquitoes.

Moreover, the 80% pomelo peeling extract concentration is as effective as the commercial mosquito

larvae repellant in repelling mosquito larvae
