Dinhi Na Lang Kutob Ug Daghang Salamat

(Reflection)

The play revolves around three men, two of whom are homosexual. One character who can’t expose
his real identity to the world and having a gay best friend who is so proud of being one. The play
somehow relates not just to those who are hiding behind the closet but to everyone who is trying to
please everybody even if it costs their own happiness.

The whole play is really great, no boring parts. Kudos to all the actors who are doing their best to
portray their role perfectly. For the first time around 22nd years of my existence I enjoyed watching a
play where the protagonists are a member of LGBT community. Honesty I don’t like watching or
reading any romance novels about gays. They are not entertaining for me as most of them have a
tragic ending when it comes to their love story. Not that I hate them, I actually have gay friends and I
love being around them. Now that I watch a play about them and be able to finish the whole show, I
realize that many people can actually relate to them. It’s really painful to hide yourself, pretending to
be somebody you are not because the world is so cruel. I pity Fidel, the main character, because he
was not able to grow and can’t even accept himself. Fidel knew how cruel the world is to his kind but
he already accepted that. He somehow envisioned his fate to be very unfortunate just because he is a
gay. The world would probably treat him as if he has a contagious disease. He is not prepared for it,
that's why he “keeps” himself. He is too busy minding what others would think about him. Too afraid
to be judged and I can’t blame him. He is just protecting his peace but what is peace without
happiness right?. I strongly believe that you can never achieve genuine happiness if you are not
being true to yourself. How are you going to expect love from someone when you can’t even love
yourself? Self-love is power. Being genuine to yourself is important as it will serve as your guidance
in creating a life for yourself. A fulfilling life filled with all of the things that make you happy and
allow you to live a life of purpose, whatever that may be for you.

I have learned from the play, that whatever you do good or bad, people will still judge you. So better
accept yourself because as long as you're not hurting feelings then their opinion about you won't
matter. The truth is that simply being yourself will most likely get you more respect. It makes you
more trustworthy and it helps implying to others that you are not scared to stand out. Accept
yourself and everything else will follow.
