date.
3.It is also important to today’s modern era and rapidly global
development.
4.We can keep a track of all the calculation of day and time
accurately with the help of IDL in case of global transportation esp
with respect to airways.
5.It is only because of the IDL that the schedules of the traffic world
wide are organised properly.

2. The day starts in Pacific Ocean on the earth.

Ans) 1.If the new day started on any land part it would have led to
confusion on the day and date to the west and last of that place.

Pacific Ocean. Thus , the day starts in Pacific Ocean on the Earth.

Ans) Following considerations have been made while deciding the IDL:
1.The direction of the travel.
2. The current day and date.
3.While travelling from west to east. One must consider the existing
day and date even after crossing the IDL.
4.While travelling from east to west crossing the IDL one need to add
a day to the date.

2.While crossing the IDL , what changes will you make ?

Ans) 1.If IDL is crossed while traveling towards the east, a previous
day and date than the original date of travel would be considered.
2.If IDL is crossed while travelling towards the west , next day and
date will be considered than the original day of travel.

3.Why is the IDL not a straight line like the 180° meridian ?
Ans) 1.If IDL had passed through the land part of some country , it
would have led to the confusion of two different dates and days in the
same country.
2.Besides , being an imagery live it would have been difficult to track
when and where exactly the IDL has been crossed.
3.Hence , to avoid the confusion, the IDL was drawn in such a way
that it will pass through only pacific ocean.
