Course Overview

National Service Training Program


(NSTP) is implemented by higher
education institutions (HEI’s) with a
specific institutional nature because
such is stipulated in the NSTP law.
Course Overview
Hence, SLU-NSTP is guided by the
vision-vision, culture, and values of
the University. SLU-NSTP also
gears itself with the excellence and
the missionary character of the
University.

National Service Training Program- Civic


Welfare Training Service 1 (NSTP-CWTS 1)
is a modular training course, pre-requisite
training course to NSTP CWTS 2 and it is a
required course for all baccalaureate degree
programs.

stipulations of RA 9163, an Act Establishing
the National Service Training Program
(NSTP) for Tertiary Level Students.

This aims to deepen the orientation of


students on the foundation of service they
must practice with communities and to use
to their respective professional
specialization.

Through this course, the students will also


become aware of their identity as a Louisian
and practice the CICM advocacies, one who
is engaged, involved, and promotes justice,
peace, integrity of creation, and indigenous
people’s apostolate.

It employs various activities and creative


instructional technologies that can provide
students the basic but optimu preparations
for their community service involvement.

1. Demonstrate the significant roles of the


youth in promoting civic consciousness,
Nation-building, good citizenship,
nationalism, and patriotism;

Module and Unit Topics

Module 1: SLU-NSTP Foundations:

This module will introduce you to the general


principles, guidelines, procedures, and
nature of SLU- NSTP Program with its
grading system. You will be guided on the
foundation of service, legal basis and CICM
missionary service as identity of every
Louisian.
Module and Unit Topics

Module 2: Community Immersion:

The nature of community immersion in Saint Louis


University will be the focus of this module. This will also
introduce you the basic knowledge in designing a project,
drafting of Service Learning Program and guide you on the
process and procedures prior to project implementation. It
focuses on community-action initiatives such as community
engagement and solidarity as guided by the core values
and mission-vision of the university.

Module 3: Disaster Risk Reduction Management:

This module focuses on the basic concepts of disaster risk


reduction management and disaster preparedness. This
will help you understand the importance of preparedness
and strategies in dealing with threats, disaster, and hazards.
You will be tasked to explore and plan for your family and
community
disaster plan.

Module 4: Special Topics for FORA:

This part of the course will cover the different topics on


health, mental, indigenous, environmental
issues/awareness and other topics relevant to this situation.
This will equip you with the different know how to take care
and p r e s e r v e m e n t a l and p h y s i c a l h e a l t h and the
environment and culture as well, hence keeping you safe
and resilient from any challenges this world may bring.
Such topics will be discussed by the different resource
speakers.

To pass the course, you must:
a.Read all course readings and answer the pre-
assessment, self- assessment activities, and
reflection questions.
b.Answer the print-based and online discussion
activities.
c. Submit assignments and activities for every term.
d.Do activities and actual performance base on
the given topics.
e.Compile and submit portfolio as evidence of
your activities and actual performances.

self- assessment, pre-assessment activities,
and reflection questions. The reflection
q u e s t i o n s activities are designed to help you
critically analyze the course readings for better
understanding while the pre-assessment and self-
assessment activities are designed as a review
management tool and preparation for the next
part of the module.

and reflection questions will be checked and
still be part of your grade participation and
completion.
Hence, no self-assessment, pre-assessment
activities, and reflection questions must be
left unanswered.
