Homework week 4

Part 1) Notation pdf

I noticed that Braxton is using some similar pitch interval sequences (even numbered) in the
fiftuplets sequences but sometimes coming from different points, that make the sequences
uneven (odd-numbered). For example, the second time that the particular Eb-Db-A apears,
results in a different pitch interval because follows a Bb instead of a B natural as in the first
time.

Part 2)

Passage in the piece Pitch Class Inversion: Bass part -> A1 - B1 - Eb 2 PI6

Passage in the pieces Pitch Class Transposition: Flute Part -> F4 - Eb4 - B3 PT2

Other inversions/transpositions: Flute part: E4 - Eb4 - B3 - Bb3. Also flute Part: D4 - Db4 -
A3 - Ab3. PT10

Then, C#4 - C4 - A3 - Ab3. PT9

Part 3)

1. Anthony Braxton's compositional and improvisational priorities revolve around

exploration, innovation, and pushing the boundaries of music. His work reflects a deep
commitment to artistic experimentation and a willingness to challenge established
norms in both jazz and contemporary classical music. In this piece, improvisation over a
set piece is one of the keys.

2. After the reading I can relate way more rhythmically with the jazz and african music
traditions.
