MODULE 1 : OVERVIEW OF THE COURSE


: PURPOSE OF SOCIAL WORK PROGRAM
: VISION, MISSION, GOALS/ PHILOSOPHY AND PRINCIPLES OF SCHOOL

LEARNING OUTCOMES:
At the end of module, the students will be able to:

1. Express appreciation and understanding on the course


2. Discuss the purpose of social work program in relation to vision, mission, goals/philosophy and principles
of the school
3. Verbalize the vision, mission, goals/philosophy and principles of the school

Lecture – Discussion, Sharing of Ideas

CONTENT:
OVERVIEW OF THE COURSE
 Generalist Perspective: Social Work history, philosophy, values, principles, code of ethics; knowledge
base/foundations of social work e.g. human behavior and social environmental, social welfare policies,
programs and services and social work practice with special reference to profession’s global, national and
regional standards including adaptation to cross- cultural settings.

PURPOSE OF SOCIAL WORK PROGRAM


 Preparation of social work graduates/future social workers for beginning competence in direct social work
practice(theories, concepts, principles along the philosophical / values and knowledge components of
social work profession (social work problem – solving process / helping process and its application to the
Philippine setting)
