Proper Hand Washing, also known

as hand hygiene, is the act of
cleaning one’s hands with soap or
handwash, and water to remove
viruses, germs, bacteria, dirt, or

to the hands.
Washing our hands is important

for us to remove germs, avoid
getting sick, and prevent the
spread of germs to others.
When do we have to wash our

hands?
o Before and after eating

o After you cough, sneeze

or blow your nose

Steps in Proper Hand Washing

1. Wet our hands with clean

water.
2. Apply enough soap unto your

hands.
3. Lather and rub hands palm to

palm.
4. Rub the back of each hand

with the palm of your opposite
hand.
5. Scrub between fingers.

6. Clean the back of your fingers

by rubbing your interlocked
fingers into your palm. Repeat
for both hands.
7. Clean around each thumb with

your opposite hand.
8. Rub your fingertips into the

palm of your opposite hand.
Repeat for both hands.
9. Clean each wrist with your

opposite hand.
10. Rinse your hands and wrists

with clean water.
11. Dry your hands and wrists

with towel or tissue.

12. Use a towel or tissue to turn

off the faucet.
