INTRODUCTION

On-The-Job Training is the actual work experience a student undergoes to further

enhance and develop their skills by actually doing the work and performing it as a worker to the

company or establishment and contribute to its success. The training is much defined as the

transfer of the required skills and knowledge usually of a supervisor to the student trainee or

apprentice through demonstration, observation and hands-on learning.

The goal of the OJT program is to place participants in occupation that will enhance their

prospects for long-term employment and will ultimately permit them to become self-sufficient.

OJT involves the acquisition of specific skills and employment competencies, through exposure

in an actual work setting, to the processes, work tasks, tools, and methods of a specific job or

group of jobs.

take their internship seriously as it can become a powerful tool and possibly even a source of

recommendation when they take that big lift from being students to career professionals.

SUMMARY REPORT OF LEARNING EXPERIENCES

FOOD AND BEVERAGE

Republic of the Philippines
UNIVERSITY OF ANTIQUE
COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND ACCOUNTANCY
Sibalom, Antique

In food and beverage there are different areas like forno osteria kitchen and bar an

itallian restaurant, 360 roof lounge, bogarts bar, indigo restaurants, sand bar, lounge and coffee

area which I assign to forno osteria, 360 roof lounge and bogarts bar.

My first day at food and beverage, I felt different emotons, I was excited and nervous because I

was immediately assigned to the 360 bar lounge rooftop. At first we were just observing, then a

staff member told us to set up the cutlery, I don’t have an idea about the cutlery he taught us he

said it’s always right toset up one of my staff taught us how to take orders, he also taught us

what happy hour is for drinks and what time it starts happy hour first duty, I already got involved

in the taking order, of course I’m nervous because I might make a mistake and then the first

time I take an order and it’s a foreigner, I listed their order after I made a repeat order, then I

asked for their room number and it was given to the cashier, I was happy because I served their

order properly, around 8 pm the event was start it’s a birthday celebration, of course our first

duty was to have an event right away , we had no idea what to do, we were just being taught as

our seniors just serve. First we got water untill we passed out, at first I was still nervous to hold

bar tray because its contents might spill, our first duty was tiring my feet hurt and my whole

body was about to fall, so the first day of my duty was memorable.

Nxt day I was still assign in 360, it was very hot because of their their happy hour started on

the rooftop around 4 pm, there was many guest bathing in the jacuzzi and swimming pool, I was

still observing untill the staff told me not to watch. I should give the guest immediately toweled

off when get arrived, I was given immediately given the menu, around 8 pm still still happy hour

there was a guest who arrived, two siblings at the time I was only at the bar so they ordered

from me I didn’t undertand what the girl was saying for me, its because he’s englings half pinoy

and then I said sorry ma’am she just hung up she really adjusted for me because he knew I was

having a hard time then she told his brother that I was ojt then they were so kind they always

say thank you, it’s so nice to feel that someone really appreciates your service, the tip is just a

bonus. The who issigned me to the 360 lounge., I’m very thankful because I learned a lot not

only in taking orders but also in how to get along with staff and how to communicate with the

guests.

Front Office Department

I was a little bit nervous as I start my first day of training at the Front Office department.

On the other hand, I was also excited since I really wanted to be assigned there because I am

planning to apply for that position someday. I am interested on the learning that I may gained

there. Front office is considered to be the nerve center of the hotel for it has all the access of all

the departments of the hotel. I was scheduled in the aternoon that week, my duty starts at one

in the afternoon and ends at ten in the evening. That was a closing shift. I am grateful to be

assigned in this department. What we are doing there is that we offer welcome drinks upon the

arrival of the guest, aswer the querries of the guest,we give and tally the number of towels being

asked there per day, we do compilation of receipts, we do the manifest, we do the breakfast

coupon and distribute it to the other departments especially on the bar and FNB department and

on the room of the guests, we do updating the board everyday and we also clean the office.
Republic of the Philippines
UNIVERSITY OF ANTIQUE
COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND ACCOUNTANCY
Sibalom, Antique

In my one week of training, I realized that it so nice to be assigned there especially when

you always hear a positive feedbacks and comments from the guest, you will really inspired to

go to work everyday. I was never satisfied with the learning I have there because I am expecting

more. But maybe its just normal for a week of taining. I believe that when you work in the front

office, you should know how to handle multiple responsibilities efficiently and with grace; you

need to be fast learners because sometimes in urgent care, things changed quickly that’s why

you should be able to learn new processes quickly. I also learned that we always need to smile

and greet not only the guests but also the staffs and all the people around you politely.

Food and Beverage Department “Los Indios Bravos”

In my second week of training at White House Boracay,I was assigned at the Food and

Beverage department. Our task there is just a cycle. When our duty starts, we will just clean the

area both the bar and its dining. So we’re gonna sweep and mop the floor, wipe the tables and

chairs, and prepare the utensils needed. We do prepare everything so that when the guests

arrived, everything is ready. Then we will proceed to the beachfront, it is in the bar department

for the serving of breakfast. Breakfast is usually serve there since the guests always wanted to

eat there maybe because of the nice view.

When the guest arrived, we will greet them as usual and assist them to their table, then

we will go and prepare the table, we do set-up with paper mat, spoon, fork and knife, that’s

actually the basic step. Next we will ask the guests of their room number to be relayed and

prepared on the kitchen department. Also we will ask the guest if we are going to serve their

complimentary drink first or just serve it with the meal. If he/she wants to serve it first, then we

will prepare and serve it.

Republic of the Philippines
UNIVERSITY OF ANTIQUE
COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND ACCOUNTANCY
Sibalom, Antique

The foods are being prepared on the kitchen department which is located at the back of

the house, only the beverages are being prepared on the bar. So when the meals of the guests

are ready, then we will go and get it there. It is always necessary to observe and apply the

prescribed standards, so we will place it on the tray and cover it, it is necessary to put the cover

to ensure that the foods being served are safe and clean. Like safe from dust thay may possibly

carried by air or whatever foreign objects that may possibly fall or comes with the food while

carrying it from kitchen to the bar’s dining.

We also act as a steward, we do bussing out and washing soiled dishes. When the

guests are done, we will buss out and clean the table in preparation for the next possible guest.

We sometimes do order taking taking and billing out, we’re just trainees so they don’t trust us

that much regarding that matter and we do understand that.

At 10 o’clock, the breakfast will end,so we go back to the resto and we wait for the

guests to walk in. Then same cycle goes when the guest arrive. We do the usual task. And the

most important thing is that we always make sure that guests are satisfied with the services we

are providing.

In a week of training at the resto, I realized that working in the hosptaliy industry is really

fun because you will be encountering lot of people. Based on my experience, I learned that as a

server, you should have some knowledge about the local areas as to advise guest on best

means of transport to the places of interest. When dealing with guest, you have to be courteous

and patient, you should converse with them pleasantly and softly and always add a smile at a

right time. Also, you should know hw to approach the guest correctly, yes it is right to anticipate

guest needs and wishes but not too much and should careful watch over them during the

service. And the most important thing is that, server should always have a good memory and

always practice honesty.

CONCLUSION

“Every accomplishment starts with a decision to try.”, they say. Having my 600 hours

training done is an accomplishment for me. The training really helped me enhanced my skills

and the things I’ve learned really adds to the knowledge I’ve acquired in my four years of

studying. It’s really different when it was only taught in the classroom than you are in the actual

scenario wherein you are applying what you have learned in the classroom. It’s so fulfilling that

you already know what it is, what it should be and how it should be. What I did was that, I

always tried, I always believed that I can. Until such time that I told myself, “I did it!”.

This On-the-Job Training served as my stepping stone to pursue my dreams in life.

Republic of the Philippines
UNIVERSITY OF ANTIQUE
COLLEGE OF BUSINESS AND ACCOUNTANCY
Sibalom, Antique

As a graduating student who is taking up Bachelor of Science in Hospitality

Management, the course requires us to undergo the On-the-Job Training in order to experience

a real working environment. On-the-Job Training is indeed vital and necessary to students because

the program expands the students’ knowledge as it helps the students explore their strengths

and weaknesses in the actual work area. OJT assists with career development by providing real

work experiences that provide students with opportunities to develop professional skills and

competencies. Upon completing the number of hours needed for the On-the-Job Training, the

trainee has been provided with intensive learning experience, ethical working values, better

communication skills, improved professional self-development, and confident self-competence.

Not only did the trainee gain practical skills but also had the opportunity to meet different people

and learned how to deal with them in an ethical way. The trainee was also able to contribute to

the company’s need of assistance. That, being said, through these observations, having an

internship or OJT program is pivotal to the preparation of students in the “real world” of work.

This internship, as a mode of learning, will go a long way into making the trainee a better

worker if this not only becomes part of her academic learning, but also in application to her daily

life, and a necessary part of her career development.

Therefore, I conclude many students realize and know that the On-The-Job training

(OJT) could help them to wider their knowledge and enhance their skills. It gave a leveled-up

self-confidence, to know more thing on the future job. In how to discipline their selves especially

when it comes to time management, a good observer, and good interrelation to co- employees.

Nothing beats experience as the perfect learning tool. This On-the- Job Training served

as my stepping stone to pursue my dream to be successful someday. This training gave me an

inspiration to be more serious and focused in being a better work holder. I was encouraged to

do more efforts in my way of service. Since I was given some ideas about the work I might

encounter on my future job, I am inspired to be a best services and hospitality provider. Despite

of the struggles and hard times, it was still a very meaningful experience. The training enriched

my confidence created a foundation of being a good employee someday. It caused a very huge

effect to me as a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management Student. I was really renewed.

I learned to be diplomatic in both action and words.

This training made me realize that it is really good to know what you’re doing, and to

love it. As a student under training, what I can do for now is to learn whatever I can in the future,

be inspired, love the path I am taking, and do my best in everything I do, with a positive outlook

in mind. I realized that I should be more focused in being the best at my work and do everything

heartily and with all that I can. It is also very warm to the heart to know that you have

accomplished something and even warmer when there are people who are so proud of what

you have done and I felt this feeling during my On- the-Job Training. It inspired me to be more

determined and competitive in everything that I do in my daily life as a student today and as a

professional someday. My On-the-Job Training is very helpful and will be very helpful to me as I

continue to take my journey as a fourth-year student in the field of Hospitality Management. It

really gave me a taste of the real world a glimpse of what lies ahead after I graduate.

RECOMMENDATION

For the incoming OJT student, they must observe good working ethics. Always report to

work on time. Cooperate with another co-employee or worker. Strictly observe Company

policies and regulations. Be responsible enough to any task given to you. Bring lots of patience

in work. Always wear a smile. Be a professional in your work manner and in your appearance.

Be hardworking and should practice self-discipline. Distractions must be minimized in the work

environment.

One advantage to OJT is the fact that it allows the learners to practice their new skills in the real

environment in which they’ll be working, using actual tools and equipment; however, this can

quickly become a disadvantage if the real world work environment is too distracting for learning
