“4 Pics 1 Word”
Orient the students’ about the game.
Preliminaries 4 Pics 1 Word is a word guessing game. It presents you with

The game you just played showed relationship of ideas. In
this lesson, you will use analogies to describe or make a
point. The comparison does not only show relationship but
also the explanation why the words or objects are related.

Let the students complete the concept to make an analogy.

B. Analysis “Picto-analysis”
 Show the students a picture with corresponding
statement and have them analyze the picture and the
statement that follow.
1. Study the picture and analyse the given statement.
Example:
The doctors are like heroes who save lives by sacrificing
their own.

2. To whom doctors are being compared? And why?
Doctors are compared to heroes because like heroes, they
gave their lives to others.
3. Can you name a hero who sacrificed himself for the
Filipinos to be freed from the rule of the Spaniards?

4. In this time of pandemic, how would you relate doctors as
heroes?
Just like how our heroes died for us to gain freedom from
Spanish regime; in the same way doctors died to save the
lives of the COVID-19 patients.
Doctors and other health workers are the front liners in
treating affected persons in the midst of covid-19 pandemic.

Now, let’s have another example to further understand how


to use analogy to describe or make a point.

Students are provided with picture and they have to pair the
picture with the photos pasted on the board, then let them
give the point of comparison.

 Based on the given examples and activities, how does
analogy helps in making or describing a point?
(Possible answer)
1. Analogy attempts to help someone understand the
importance of your message when it involves a body of
knowledge or domain they are unfamiliar with.

2. Analogy is a comparison of two things to show their


similarities. Sometimes the things being compared are quite
similar, but other times they could be very different.
Nevertheless, an analogy explains one thing in terms of
another to highlight the ways in which they are alike.
 Think of words/concepts and use analogy to describe
its relationship or make a point.

 What do you think is the purpose of analogy?
The purpose of an analogy is to better explain or expand the
idea or concept by comparing it to something else that may
be familiar to it and to the reader. The two things being
compared may be completely dissimilar and unlike each
other, which still helps the audience or reader understand
something about their relationship. Essentially, an analogy
helps a reader or audience understand something abstract or
uncommon by comparing it to something familiar or common
to the audience.
