Introduction

This chapter presents the research methodology used in studying the negative effects
of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the life of Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
students of Mangaldan National High School. The chapter provides an overview of the
instrumentation and data collection methods used in the study, as well as the data analysis
method. Additionally, the sources of data are also provided in this research.

Research Design

The research design for this study is qualitative, aiming to explore the subjective
experiences, perceptions, and opinions of ICT students regarding the negative effects of AI.
Qualitative research provides an in-depth understanding of individuals' perspectives and
allows for rich, detailed insights into the topic.

Instrumentation & Data Collection

The instrument used in this study is a survey questionnaire. The survey questionnaire
was developed based on the research objectives and questions on the discussion of the
study, The Negative Effects of Artificial Intelligence in the Daily Lives of Technical-Vocational
Livelihood (TVL) - Information and Communications Technology (ICT) students in
Mangaldan National High School S.Y. 2022-2023. The questionnaire is consisting of open-
ended questions and follow-up probes to explore their experiences and perspectives in-
depth.

The primary data collection method used in this study is a survey. The survey was
distributed to a sample of 10 Technical-Vocational Livelihood (TVL) - Information and
Communications Technology (ICT) students from Mangaldan National High School. Before
conducting the survey, the letter of consent was first made, and it was approved by the
research adviser. The researcher first informed the participants about the purpose of this
study. The researcher asked for permission from the participants before giving the
questionnaire to the participants and their participation was because they were available and
their purpose. If the other participant refuses to be surveyed, the researcher will respect the
decision. The remaining participants who agreed to be surveyed were told that this survey

2
was voluntary. If they have questions they don't understand, the researcher is ready to guide
them. Participants were also assured of their anonymity and confidentiality. Any personal
information obtained from the participants was kept confidential and used only for the
purpose of this research.

Tools for Data Analysis

Survey questionnaires that were distributed to the participants were the first method of
using data and tools. To address the problem, the researcher will use the data that was
gathered via a questionnaire. Researchers should also become familiar with data's artificial
intelligence. Artificial intelligence is the finding of knowledge that has been verified by data
that has already been gathered.

Source of Data

To complete the study, researchers need sources of data to complete and their study
more credible. The following sources were used to support this study:

I. Primary Data

1.Participants

A. Grade 11 Technical-Vocational Livelihood (TVL) - Information and Communications

Technology (ICT) Students

B. Grade 12 Technical-Vocational Livelihood (TVL) – Information and Communications

Technology (ICT) Students

Definition Of Terms

1. Technical-Vocational Livelihood (TVL): Refers to an educational track or program

that focuses on developing practical skills and competencies related to a specific
trade or industry. TVL programs typically prepare students for employment in
technical and vocational fields.

2. Survey Questionnaire: A research instrument used to collect data by posing a

series of questions to participants. The questionnaire may consist of open-ended
questions, multiple-choice questions, Likert scale items, or a combination of these,
depending on the research objectives.

3. Data Analysis: The process of inspecting, transforming, and interpreting collected

data to uncover meaningful patterns, trends, and insights. Various statistical and
qualitative methods are employed to analyze and make sense of the data obtained
from research studies.

4. Primary Data: Refers to data collected firsthand by the researcher specifically for the
research study at hand. Primary data is gathered through surveys, interviews,
observations, or experiments and is directly relevant to the research objectives.

5. Participants: In the context of this study, participants are the Grade 11/12 Technical-
Vocational Livelihood (TVL) - Information and Communications Technology (ICT)
students from Mangaldan National High School who were involved in the data
collection process.

Questionnaire:

1. What are some everyday tasks where you use computers, smartphones, or tablets,
and how can Artificial Intelligence (AI) be applied to those tasks?

(Ano ang ilang pang-araw-araw na gawain kung saan ginagamit mo ang mga
computer, smartphone, o tablet, at paano maaring gamitin ang Artificial Intelligence
(AI) sa mga gawain na iyon?)

2. As a Grade 11/12 Technical-Vocational Livelihood (TVL) – Information and

Communications Technology (ICT) student, what are some potential negative effects
you have observed or encountered in your personal life due to the use of Artificial
Intelligence (AI)?

(Bilang isang mag-aaral ng Grade 11/12 Technical-Vocational Livelihood

(TVL) – Information and Communications Technology (ICT), ano ang ilang posibleng
negatibong epekto na napansin o naranasan mo sa personal mong buhay dahil sa
paggamit ng Artificial Intelligence (AI)?)

3. In what ways do you think Artificial Intelligence (AI) can affect the future of every
Technical-Vocational Livelihood (TVL) – Information and Communications
Technology (ICT) student?

(Sa anong mga paraan sa iyong palagay mo maaaring maapektuhan ng

Artificial Intelligence (AI) ang kinabukasan ng bawat Technical-Vocational Livelihood
(TVL) – Information and Communications Technology (ICT) student?

4. What are the potential strategies that can reduce the negative effects of Artificial
Intelligence (AI)?

5
(Ano ang mga potensyal na diskarte na maaaring gamitin upang mabawasan
ang mga negatibong epekto ng Artificial Intelligence (AI)?)
