Summer is my favorite season. The weather is perfect for outside activities. I
like going on beaches with my parents and going to Kangkinaway with my friends. I
look forward to the smell of a fresh air and the taste of pansit. I love summer!

ACTIVITY 2: Hook-On Sentences


Together as a class, LET’S choose a topic to write about. You may want to pick a
subject you are familiar with, such as oceans, social media, brushing teeth, Duterte, election,
etc. Your teacher will come up with the main idea and the first sentence. Then have the first
student in each group add a supporting detail. The student can pass the paragraph to the
next student who will add another supporting detail, and so on. The fourth student can write
the closing sentence.

WRITING TECHNIQUES
A writing technique is a style an author uses to convey their message in a manner that is effective
and meaningful to their audience. Understanding the different types of writing techniques is
important because you will need to change your style of writing to make a connection with your
audience.

Informative Writing
The informative writing definition is precisely what its name implies – writing that is designed to inform
the reader about a given topic. Informative writing, which is sometimes called expository or
explanatory writing, uses evidence and information from credible sources to support a focused and
logical explanation of the topic at hand.
Persuasive Writing
Persuasive writing is a form of writing that encourages careful word choice, the development of logical
arguments, and a cohesive summary. It is used to convince or persuade a reader that the writer’s
opinion of a topic or cause is correct by appealing to readers' emotions to make them believe
something or take specific action.

Argumentative Writing
In argumentative writing, you are typically asked to take a position on an issue or topic and explain and
support your position with research from reliable and credible sources. It uses logic and evidence to
build a case for a specific claim.

ACTIVITY 3: informative, persuasive, argumentative?


Smoking is a hard habit to break because tobacco contains the very addictive chemical
nicotine. As with heroin or other addictive drugs, the body and mind quickly get used to the
nicotine in cigarettes. Indeed, a person needs to have it just to feel normal.
People start smoking for different reasons. Some think it looks cool. Also, others start
because their family members or friends smoke. Almost all adult tobacco users started
before they were 18 years old. Most never expected to become addicted. Therefore, it's so
much easier to not start smoking at all.
