Important Information

The Red5-MODULE-8xP is not a standalone product and must be installed with a Red5 ROOM controller
(Red5-PLUS-ROOM or Red5-EDGE-ROOM).

The system must be powered down or power cycled whenever a Red5 module or O3-HUB sensor hub is
added or removed.

Software/Firmware Compatibility

The Red5-MODULE-8xP module is compatible with firmware version 4.9 or later* and requires enteliWEB
software version 4.14 or later for programming.

*Depending on the firmware version you are using, the 8xP module may show up as “O3-DIN-8xP” in the
IOM object.

The firmware for the Red5-MODULE-8xP module resides on the . When the Red5 ROOM controller firmware
is upgraded, the firmware of its associated modules is also upgraded. To upgrade the Red5 ROOM
controller firmware, use the Manage Device Firmware feature in enteliWEB
(select > Management > Manage Device Firmware).

Mounting the Module

The Red5-MODULE-8xP is designed to be mounted to a horizontal 35 × 7.5 mm top hat DIN rail (TS35).
Other mounting configurations are not supported.

When installing inside an enclosure, make sure that the following minimum requirements are met:

The enclosure must be UL certified.

The enclosure must be constructed of 16-gauge sheet metal.
To ensure adequate ventilation, the installed modules must have at least 50.8 mm (2 in.)
clearance on the sides and front, and 12.7 mm (0.5 in.) on top.

Do not mount or remove Red5 modules while the system is powered.

To mount the module on a DIN rail:

1. Turn off the power to the Red5 system.

2. Two DIN rail locking clips are located on the top and bottom of the module. Using a small flat-
blade screwdriver, pry the clips outward from the module to the extended (unlocked) position.
3. Remove the protective end cap (if present) from the rightmost module on the DIN rail to expose
the module bus port connector.
4. Line up the grooves on the side of the module with the grooves on the adjacent module and
gently slide the module toward the DIN rail.

1. With the module positioned snugly against the DIN rail, push in the clips to lock the module in
place.
2. Install the protective end cap (if present) on the exposed right side of the module.
3. Turn on the power to the Red5 system.

To remove the module from a DIN rail:

1. Turn off the power to the Red5 system.

2. Using a small flat-blade screwdriver, pry the DIN rail locking clips outward from the module to

the extended (unlocked) position.
3. Gently but firmly slide the module toward you.

Addressing the Module

You do not have to address the Red5-MODULE-8xP module. When power to the Red5 system is turned on,
the controller automatically assigns an internal device address to the module based on the module’s
position on the DIN rail relative to the controller or power injector. For more information about object
instance numbers, see Object Instance Numbers section below.

Configuring Inputs and Outputs

This module uses universal points that you can software-configure as inputs or outputs in enteliWEB 4.5
and later. A point is designated as an input or output based on the object type created for that object
instance. You can create objects manually or you can auto-create them from an existing template using
the Database Creation tool (enteliWEB 4.12 and later).

To manually configure a universal point:

1. In enteliWEB, in the Navigation pane tree view, click the Red ROOM controller that is on the
same bus as the module.
2. At the top of the object list, click Manage, then click Create.
3. Select the object type and enter an object instance number. See the Object Instance Numbers
section below to determine the object instance number.
4. Enter an object name in the Object Name field.
5. Click Create.

Object Instance Numbers

The object instance numbering for the Red5-MODULE-8xP module follows the format pssmxx, where:

Examples are shown below:

Sinking Current 1–10 V Output

To set up an output to sink current at 1–10 V, in enteliWEB select the 0–10 V signal type in the Output
Configuration field for that output object. The output will naturally sink current to maintain its output
voltage. By design, the output does not go all the way down to 0 V when set to 0%. The lowest output
voltage is dependent on the size of the sinking current.
