Repairing of Simple Gadgets

Repairs often mean simple replacement of worn or used components
intended to be periodically renewed by a homeowner, such as broken
furniture (chairs, cabinets, and tables), door knob, extension cord,
lampshade, and other products.

A pupil as young as you can already practice maintenance work and

learn basic home repairs with the assistance of parents or teachers.

Here is a simple house or school repairs that you can do with the
supervision of the parents, elders, or teachers.

Repairing Male plug

Tools and Materials:

5 m duplex wire #4 (if cord)
pliers
1 male plug
screwdriver
1 cover surface type
electrician cutter
Procedure:

A. Unscrew the cord from the defective male by

turning the screw counterclockwise.

B. Use the same cord if it is still good, or use a

new one.

C. Split the end of the wire about 10cm.

D. With the use of a cutter, peel off the skin or

insulator by 2 cm.

E. Insert the wire into the male plug. Insert the

cord into the new male plug and tie the underwriter’s
knot.

F. Connect the wires in the terminals of the male

plug.

G. Put the cover of the plug backs so that

the wire will not be exposed and cause electric
shock.

When testing an appliance cord or wire, make sure first that itis
unplugged or disconnected from any electrical source or capacitor. And
then, use a continuity tester or multimeter to see if it can sufficiently
conduct electricity.
With the tester still attached, move the wire to make sure that
there is no break in the strands that can cause intermittent shorts. Do
not forget to check the quality and pliability of the cord or wire
insulation. If there are any breaks or cracks that may eventually expose
strands, replace the cord or wire with an equivalent rating and gauge.
