Christian University, S.Y. 2023-2024
The reason to study this research topic is to
assess the level of understanding of the formal
Filipino language among humanities and
social science students. Understanding the
formal Filipino language is crucial for these
students, as it is the medium of instruction in
many Philippine educational institutions and
is important for their overall academic
performance.

This study can provide insights into the areas

where students may struggle to understand the
formal Filipino language, such as grammar,
vocabulary, and comprehension. By
identifying these areas, educators can develop
targeted strategies to enhance students'
understanding and proficiency in the
language.
Analyzing the relationship between students'
understanding of formal Filipino language
and their performance in Filipino-related
subjects can help in evaluating the
effectiveness of the current curriculum and
teaching methods. It can provide valuable
information on whether the language
proficiency level is appropriately aligned with
the academic expectations of these students.

Studying this topic can also contribute to the

overall improvement of Filipino language
education in the country. The findings can be
used to develop or modify language learning
programs and curriculum frameworks that
cater specifically to the needs of humanities
and social science students. This would
ensure that they have the necessary language
skills to excel in their academic pursuits and
future careers.

As we journey through this research, we

embark on a mission to bridge the gap
between language mastery and academic
achievement. Our findings will illuminate the
path to a future where humanities and social
science students at Philippine Christian
University emerge not just as scholars but as
eloquent ambassadors of the Filipino
