Why did you choose this topic?

Amid the pandemic's peak, various play-to-earn games, such as Axie Infinity, became
accessible to a broader spectrum of users. This heightened exposure to cryptocurrency trading
extended even to individuals without a prior financial education or expertise. My selection of
this research topic is driven by a desire to investigate people's perspectives on cryptocurrency
investment and contribute to the assessment of their understanding in this field.

Do you have a data source? Explain

During the pandemic (2020-2022), I resided in Batangas City, which emerged as a

notable hub for the Axie Infinity game, a play-to-earn online game. This development was
largely attributed to Yield Guild Games (YGG), an organization that introduced the game to our
community.

In Axie Infinity, players had the opportunity to accumulate Smooth Love Potions (SLPs),
which could then be converted into Ethereum, a cryptocurrency, and subsequently traded for
cash. (https://decrypt.co/resources/what-is-axie-infinity-the-play-to-earn-nft-game-taking-
crypto-by-storm)

Within our barangay, it was common for nearly every family to have at least one
member possessing an Axie Infinity account, actively participating in what was known as the
"Scholarship" program. Under this initiative, individuals known as "Managers," who had the
financial means, purchased Axies and allowed others to play them. The system primarily
functioned on a 70-30 scheme, with 70% of the earnings going to the player and the remaining
30% to the account owner. Some participants who initially benefited from the scholarship
program eventually acquired their own accounts.

Despite the decline in SLP value today, the community, especially the youth, still became
increasingly intrigued and engaged in other cryptocurrency trading.
