TYPES OF ACCOMMODATION
a. _____________________________
These are often small, family run businesses. The level of service
in these kinds of establishments can vary significantly, as can
the price tag. This kind of hotel is often found in small towns or
5 rural areas, and guests often choose them because they offer an
insight into the local area. As such, a friendly, hands-on service
is usually a big part of running one of these.
b. _____________________________
These offer luxury service to their guests. In order to be rated
10 as such, they must offer different types of services, like a
concierge, valet parking, 24-hour room service, in-house fine dining, swimming pools, gym
facilities, a sauna, etc.
c. _____________________________
This is a full-service hotel facility primarily designed for relaxing. Although many travellers
15 will also want to explore the local area, these are designed to be self-contained to the point
where guests could, in theory, stay within its confines for the duration of their stay. They vary in
terms of luxury and levels of service but, generally speaking, they usually have a swimming
pool, several dining facilities, a bar, a gym, and recreational activities.
d. _____________________________
20 This is fully furnished, self-sufficient accommodation. It can be suitable for both short and long-
term stays. Again, it can vary in terms of services provided. Some may be situated within a
building that allows access to facilities such as gyms and swimming pools, but others
might not.
e. _____________________________
25 These can vary in terms of luxury levels, but they are usually above average and veer towards
the higher end of the scale. They are generally smaller, have a strong sense of character and
often have unique design features.
f. _____________________________
These are usually extremely low budget options for backpackers and travellers. Some may cater
30 specifically to young travellers looking to socialise and have fun, whereas others might provide
quieter accommodation on a budget. Some offer private rooms, but many offer shared dorm
rooms as a means of providing extremely cheap accommodation. Shared kitchen facilities are
also a common feature.
