NATIONAL SPECIALIST REGISTER

CRITERIA FOR REGISTRATION IN OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY

Any doctor can request to be registered in Specialty of Otorhinolaryngology if he/she fulfils ALL the
following requirements:

1.0 Fully Registered with Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) with current Annual
Practicing Certificate (APC)

2.0 Possessed recognised postgraduate qualification

2.1 List of recognized postgraduate qualifications

i. Master of Otorhinolaryngology, Universiti Malaya


ii. Master of Otorhinolaryngology –Head & Neck Surgery, Universiti Malaya
iii. Master of Surgery (Otorhinolaryngology –Head & Neck), Universiti Kebangsaan
Malaysia
iv. Doctor of Otorhinolaryngology –Head & Neck Surgery, Universiti Kebangsaan
Malaysia
v. Master of Medicine (Otorhinolaryngology), Universiti Sains Malaysia
vi. Master of Medicine (Otorhinolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery), Universiti
Sains Malaysia
vii. Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh
FRCS(Edin) in Otolaryngology [Up to year 2000]
viii. Fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow
FRCS(Glasg) in Otolaryngology [Up to year 2000]
ix. Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland
FRCS(Ire) in Otolaryngology [Up to year 2000]
x. Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England
FRCS(Eng) in Otolaryngology [Up to year 2000]
xi. Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons
FRACS in Otolaryngology Head & Neck Surgery
xii. Certification of American Board of Otolaryngology
(Note - Holders of xii must complete at least four (4) years training of which 1
year must be post-qualification)
xiii. Intercollegiate Fellowship [FRCS (ORL-HNS)]

3.0 Completed required postgraduate training in recognized centres.

4.0 Post-qualification supervised working experience

4.1 Minimum of two (2) years of working experience as an Otorhinolaryngologist.


4.2 Evidence of active practice in Otorhinolaryngology for the past 2 years:
4.2.1 Logbook and Summary of Core Procedures for the last two (2) years,
endorsed by Head of Department (Public Sector) or Medical Director (Private
Sector)

5.0 Notwithstanding the above, the SSC may stipulate any additional conditions, including
training/work experience/interview, on the applicant if deemed necessary.
