STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Addiction to mobile games has become widespread among students, prompting concerns about
its possible influence on academic performance. As mobile gaming becomes more popular and
accessible, there is a greater need to research the impact of mobile game addiction on student
academic performance. The purpose of this research is to address the following issue:

Although the increasing frequency of mobile game addiction among students, there is a lack of
thorough understanding of the effects of this addiction on academic performance. While
anecdotal evidence suggests that mobile game addiction may have a negative impact on students'
academic performance, scientific study on the subtle relationship between mobile game addiction
and academic performance is lacking. It is still unclear how mobile game addiction emerges
among students, what factors contribute to addiction, and how it affects their academic
achievements.

Additionally, much of the existing literature emphasizes the detrimental effects of mobile game
addiction while frequently ignoring any potential benefits or coping mechanisms that kids might
learn. Consequently, a thorough analysis is required to examine the impact of mobile game
addiction on academic performance, taking into account both potential negative effects and
potential positive effects.

This study aims to fill up these knowledge gaps in order to give readers a better grasp of how
mobile game addiction affects students' academic performance. It tries to pinpoint the precise
mechanisms through which a students’ addiction to a mobile game may affect their capacity to
focus, learn, properly manage their time, and participate in educational activities. This study also
attempts to investigate possible safeguards or coping mechanisms that students can use to lessen
the negative effect of mobile game addiction on their academic performance.

Ultimately, this study aims to offer useful insights to educators, parents, and policymakers,
enabling them to create knowledgeable strategies and interventions that can effectively manage
students' mobile game usage, promote healthy gaming habits, and enhance their academic
performance.
SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY

The study exploring the effects of mobile game addiction on the academic performance of
students holds several key significances:

1. Increasing Understanding: By examining the connection between mobile game addiction and
academic performance, this study will help us better understand how excessive mobile game play
affects students' academic results. It will clarify the precise mechanisms through which mobile
game addiction may impair students' capacity for academic activities like studying, paying
attention, and time management.

2. Identifying Challenges: Finding the particular areas where academic performance may be
impeded may be made easier by understanding the challenges that students who are addicted to
mobile gaming face. This understanding is necessary for educators, parents, and policymakers to
develop successful targeted interventions and support systems for these problems

3. Informing Intervention Strategies: The results of this study will be helpful in informing the
creation of intervention techniques meant to reduce the detrimental impacts of mobile game
addiction on academic performance. In order to implement appropriate interventions, educational
programs, and support systems, educators and parents will have a better awareness of the
variables causing addiction and the related academic difficulties.

4. Promoting Healthy Gaming Habits: By raising awareness of the possible negative

consequences of mobile game addiction on academic performance, the study can help promote
healthy gaming habits among students. It can aid in the creation of policies and instructional
programs that promote safe mobile game usage and assist students in finding a balance between
their gaming pursuits and academic responsibilities.

5. Guiding Policy Development: The study's findings can be used by policymakers and
educational institutions to design recommendations and policies that address mobile gaming
addiction and its effects on academic performance. The implementation of educational programs
that encourage a healthy digital lifestyle and aid students in achieving academic achievement can
be supported by these policies, which can incorporate measures to increase awareness, offer
counseling resources, and so on.

6. Filling the Research Gap: Despite the growing incidence of mobile game addiction among
students, in-depth studies investigating its consequences on academic performance are still
lacking. By presenting actual data and a comprehensive understanding of the relationship
between mobile gaming addiction and academic outcomes, this study will help close this
research gap.
This study has the potential to have a significant impact on educational practices, intervention
tactics, and policy formulation by examining the consequences of mobile game addiction on
students' academic performance. The results will add to the body of existing information and lay
the groundwork for more studies in this area.

RESEARCH QUESTIONS

1. Does mobile game addiction have a statistically significant negative impact on students'
overall academic performance?
2. Do students who are addicted to mobile games perform worse academically than their
peers who are not addicted?
3. Do students who exhibit signs of mobile game addiction demonstrate lower levels of
concentration and focus during academic activities compared to non-addicted students?
4. Are students who are addicted to mobile games more likely than non-addicted pupils to
put off doing their assignments?
5. Are students who are addicted to mobile games more likely to experience a decline in
their academic performance compared to their peers who are not addicted?

RESEARCH INSTRUMENT

The goal of the research instrument that is used, is to understand the impact of mobile game
addiction on students' academic performance by identifying the mechanisms affecting focus,
learning, time management, and participation in educational activities. It also explores potential
safeguards and coping mechanisms for students to reduce the negative effects of mobile game
addiction.
