Exam Date: 17-Mar-2023 12:56:12 PM Accession No: LOS9393

Patient: DIXON, NADINE Modality Type: MR

MRN: 17041974CH Description: SPINE^LUMBAR
Gender: F Location:
Birth Date: 17-Apr-1974 Referring:

Exam: MRI OF THE LUMBAR SPINE WITHOUT CONTRAST

Clinical data: Possible disc bulge around L4/L5.

Technique: Multiplanar multisequence MRI of the lumbar spine without contrast. Axial imaging was
performed through the L1 through S1 disc levels.

Prior studies: No prior studies submitted.

Findings:
Normal alignment of the lumbar spine. The L4-5 and L5-S1 intervertebral discs are dehydrated and the
L4-5 intervertebral disc is of reduced height. There is a prosthetic device in the left L4-5 interspinous
space suggestive of a spacing device.

The other lumbar intervertebral discs are well hydrated.

At L1-2, L2-3 and L3-4, there is no focal disc protrusion causing focal neural compression or significant
foraminal narrowing.

At L4-5 there is a small posterior disc bulge. No neural compression is seen.

At L5-S1 there is a small right paracentral disc protrusion. This is causing right lateral recess stenosis
and there is some impingement upon the right S1 nerve root in its lateral recess.

The lumbar thecal sac is adequate throughout. The conus is normal.

IMPRESSION:
There are degenerative changes in the lower lumbar spine. No significant posterior disc protrusion is
seen at L4-5. At L5-S1 there is a right dorsolateral disc protrusion causing some impingement upon the
right S1 nerve root.

Recommendation: Follow up as clinically indicated.
