PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

HARD HATS ( ANSI Z-94 )

Check to assure there are no paints or solvents on the hard

hat. These are typically used for decorative purposes or to
write a name.

Check to see if there is any discoloration or fading. This is

a sign of UV damage. Take the brim and bend it. If there
are visible cracks, if you can hear cracking sounds or if the
brim does not bend, it has UV damage and must be

removed from service.

Check the suspension system for integrity. It must be worn

properly as to allow the suspension points to absorb any
potential impact. The Hard Hat must be worn forward and
not cocked to the side at an angle or on the back of the head
tilted back.

Check to see if there is a chin strap for anyone working at

heights. Chin straps are mandatory for working at heights.

Make sure there are no baseball caps worn underneath the

hard hat or anything else which may affect the suspension
system or the fit of the hard hat.

Make sure the welding hood adaptor and/or face shield
adaptor is firmly connected to the brim of the hardhat and
can be properly engaged.
SAFETY GLASSES ( ANSI Z-87 )

Safety glasses must be clean and free from scratches that

can obscure vision. Replace any overly scratched safety
glasses.

Safety glasses must not have any paint or solvents. This is

sometimes used for decorative purposes. Replace these Z-87 approved type
glasses immediately.

Safety glasses must be of an approved type. The Z-87 or

European equivalent must be embossed on the frame. Any
fake or “Hollywood” glasses are to be removed
immediately.
