Introduction
1.1 General Information
Arab Company for Laboratories & Soil (ACES) is a specialized engineering com-
pany in site & geotechnical investigation, materials technology & testing, quality control of
projects, special studies, environmental studies & testing, and land & marine surveying.
ACES has an excellent track record for delivering the best value for its clients in terms of
responsiveness, consistency, and practical solutions. ACES main goal is to partner with its
clients, understand and exceed their expectations.

ACES possesses a highly skilled and specialized workforce and modern equipment,
which allows to provide its clients with punctual, competitive and high standard services
at all times and in all projects regardless of their size.
All of ACES tests are conducted in accordance with the highest international stand-

Standards (DIN), and the European Standards (EN), and the requirements of ISO 9001-

ACES was established in 2006 in Jeddah-Saudi Arabia, and is part of the Arab Cen-

2.1 Geotechnical Drilling Facilities
ACES is equipped to carry out Off-shore and On-
shore drilling projects ranging from small size drilling
depth of few meters to big projects depth of more than
150m. Deep boreholes. Drilling activities include sam-

2.5 Pile Testing & Instrumentation
The testing and quality control of piles at construction and post construction stages has become a
common practice in most of the projects. ACES delivers quality services with a focus on safety,
value, innovation and excellence. Our comprehensive pile
testing services includes:
 Caliper Logging
Caliper log determines the shape and size variations
of the drilled pile borehole to assess zones of likely
collapse, necking or bulging prior to concreting of
the shaft.

 Ultrasonic Crosshole Logging
An important very common test to investigate the quality of the shaft concrete and locate
defective zones within the pile shaft.
 Static Load Test (Vertical, Uplift & Lateral)

Pile Load Test (PLT) is most reliable tests to ascertain pile load capacity and behavior. ACES pro-
vides full monitoring of PLT with displacement transducers, dial gauges and load cells including
pile shaft instrumentation, in addition to inclinometers for laterally loaded piles tests.

 Low Strain Integrity Test

This is a fundamental test conducted on almost all
constructed piles to investigate pile shaft integrity
and detect defects such as necking and cracking of
the pile shaft, in addition to checking the pile length.
 High Strain Dynamic Test

This important test determines the pile carrying
capacity and settlement properties. The facility
enables real-time analysis of the pile data, which
can highlight any pile problems while the piling rig

The purpose of the static load in compression on instrumented piles are to evaluated the

 Shrinkage Monitoring
This instrumentation using Vibrating Wire Strain Gauges
(Embedment type) is carried out to monitor strain in the
concrete structure due to shrinkage. Shrinkage after
hardening of concrete is the decrease with time of concrete
volume.


Temperature Monitoring of Mass Concrete (Thermocouple Sensors)
Temperature monitoring is carried out during the execution of mass concrete structures of
which the character of concrete is technically specified as a structure with large dimensions
and has the tendency to rise its temperature due to many factors such as mix design and
progress of heat of hydration.
 Estimated Concrete Strength by the Maturity Method

The maturity method is a technique that can be used to
estimate the strength of in-placed concrete in terms of the
temperature - Time factor.

ACES have developed good reputation in solving “Construction Problems”. Accordingly, ACES
established a special studies & project department to handle a wide range of projects with an
open-ended scope. ACES employs highly qualified specialists in highways, structural and
geotechnical engineering for this purpose. Also, state of the art equipment for destructive and
non-destructive testing are utilized by ACES. All available equipment are calibrated and in
accordance with the International Standards such as BS, EN, ASTM, DIN, AASHTO, CIRIA etc.
ACES have conducted this specialized work in several countries in the Arab World and in Asia.

Non-Destructive Structural Evaluation of Highway & Airport Pavements Using Heavy Fall-
ing Weight Deflectometer (HWD)
A heavy weight deflectometer, HWD, is a testing device used by civil engineers to

evaluate the physical properties of pavement. This could include (but is not limited to)
highways, local roads, airport runways and railway tracks. The machine is usually contained
within a trailer that can be either towed to a location by another vehicle or, when used on
railway tracks, placed on a hand trolley and pushed to the location.

Surface Irregularities Test by Travelling Beam
Three meter long travelling beam device is used to check any irregularities in both
concrete and bituminous road surface. A sensing unit comprising a wheel connected to an
indicator provides a magnification of 4: 1. Deviation of the surface from a straight line is shown
on a incremental graduated scale.

ACES pioneered this activity in Jordan several years ago and this service is gaining popularity
