Assignment #1

MG-2009 Data Analysis for Business-II / Statistical Inference

Sections: BS(A&F), BBA, BS(BA) All Sections Submission Date: 06/09/23

Instructions:

 Assignment should be done on A4 size paper

 There is no tolerance for plagiarism
 Clearly specify the source from which you have collected the data
 Write down your class section on top right corner of the title page

Question #1

Collect your data for any continuous variable. Add each digit of your roll number
and multiply the answer with 6 [e.g. 21-1766 = (2+1+1+7+6+6)*6)]. Your answer
will be the total number of observations, denote it by N. If the number of
observations of any student are less than 80 then S/he must collect 80 observations.

If the number of observations after adding the all digits of your respective roll
number and then multiplying it by 6 are more than 80 then that number will be the
total number of observation S/he has to collect for the data. Using the data collected
according to the above conditions and answer the following four parts.
Collect data from any source (websites, newspapers, books etc.)

Part - I
a) Take 68% observation of the “N” collected, consider it as “ n1 ”
b) Construct frequency distribution.
c) Construct histogram for the data
d) Calculate Error for the data i.e. E  X   , use X = X1
e) Calculate Finite correction factor (fcf) / population correction factor (pcf) using formula
N n
(i.e. use n = n1 )
N 1
f) Calculate, mean, Median and Mode for the data
g) Check whether the data is symmetrical, positively skewed or negatively skewed.

h) Calculate Standard Error using formula S .E 
n
Part - II
a) Take 95% observation of the “N” collected, consider it as “ n 2 ”
b) Construct frequency distribution.
c) Construct histogram for the data
d) Calculate Error for the data i.e. E  X   , use X = X 2
e) Calculate Finite correction factor (fcf) / population correction factor (pcf) using formula
N n
(i.e. use n = n 2 )
N 1
f) Calculate, mean, Median and Mode for the data
g) Check whether the data is symmetrical, positively skewed or negatively skewed.

h) Calculate Standard Error using formula S .E 
n

Part - III
a) Take 99% observations i.e. use “N” observations collected.
b) Construct frequency distribution.
c) Construct histogram for the data
d) Calculate Error for the data i.e. E  X   , use X = X 3
e) Calculate, mean, Median and Mode for the data
f) Check whether the data is symmetrical, positively skewed or negatively skewed.

g) Calculate Standard Error using formula S .E  (use n = N )
n

Part – IV
Write down a detailed summery, indicating, what happen with histogram, Error, fcf and Standard Error
when the sample size is increased.
Question#2
Consider each digit of your roll number i.e. 18-1768 then your population will consist the numbers 1,
8, 1, 7, 6 and 8. Similarly if your roll number includes zero then you must exclude zero and your
population will consist all the numbers other than zero i.e. 20i-1234 then your population will include
the numbers 2, 1, 2, 3 and 4.

a. Draw all possible sample of size two with replacement. Construct sampling distribution of
sample mean X , then verify the following two properties.

1. X = 
2
2.  X2 
n

b. Draw all possible sample of size three without replacement. Construct sampling distribution of
sample mean X , then verify the following two properties.

1. X = 
2  N n
2.  X2   
n  N 1 
