Angles

These figures are not drawn to scale. Find the unknown angles.

1. ABCD is a rhombus. ABE is a straight line. Find ∠ADC.

D C

68º
A B E

2. PQRS is a parallelogram. Find ∠SRQ.

P S
68º

Q R

∠ADC = ∠ABC = 112º (opposite ∠s are equal)

∠SRQ = ∠QPS = 68º (opposite ∠s are equal) ∠ABC = 180º – 68º = 112º (∠s on a straight line)
2. 68º Solutions: 1. 112º

E
A

2. XYZ is an equilateral triangle. XZW is a straight line. Find ∠YZW.

X Z W

∠YZW = 180º – 60º = 120º (∠s on a straight line) ∠DCE = ∠ACB = 73º (vertically opposite ∠s)
∠XYZ = ∠YZX = ∠ZXY = 60º (equilateral D) ∠ACB = 180º – 33º – 74º = 73º (sum of ∠s in a D = 180º)
2. 120º Solutions: 1. 73º

2. ABCD is a parallelogram. DCE is an isosceles triangle where DC = DE. BCE is a straight line.
Find ∠ADC.

B C E

∠ADC = 180º – 127º = 53º (∠s between two parallel lines = 180º)
∠DCB = 180º – 53º = 127º (∠s on a straight line)

∠DCE = ∠DEC =  __________ ∠ABC = 180º – 108º – 42º = 30º (sum of ∠s in a D = 180º)
180º – 74º
2. 53º Solutions: 1. 30º

Mental Maths: Multiplying Numbers by 111

Find the value of 58 × 111.

STRATEGY
Step 1: 58 × 100 = 5800 [multiply the number by 100 first]
Step 2: 58 × 11 = (50 × 11) + (8 × 11) [multiply the number by 11]
= 550 + 88
= 638
Step 3: 5800 + 638 = 6438 [add the results obtained in steps 1 and 2]

58 × 111 = 6438

Do these sums mentally.

1. 22 × 111 =

2. 46 × 111 =

3. 39 × 111 =

4. 64 × 111 =

5. 90 × 111 =

6. 72 × 111 =

7. 55 × 111 =

8. 81 × 111 =

9. 79 × 111 =

10. 17 × 111 =

10. 1887 9. 8769 8. 8991 7. 6105 6. 7992 5. 9990 4. 7104 2.5106   3. 4329 Solutions: 1. 2442
