NARRATIVE REPORT ON BRIGADA ESKWELA

S.Y. 2023-2024
Educators believe that environment plays a big part in pupils learning and so. If
classrooms are not conducive to learning because of poor condition and some defective
school facilities, education is hindered. The Department of Education conducted this year
Brigada Eskwela, also known as the National Schools Maintenance Week on August 14-19,
2023 where all education stakeholders contributed their time, effort and resources in
ensuring that the school facilities are ready in time for the school opening. As early as
August 14, 2023, Parents, Stakeholders and teachers of Paglaum Elementary School
recruited volunteers who would participate in the brigade.

Parents, school alumni and other people from the community were encourage to join
the week-long annual program. Since no National government money was put into Brigada
Eskwela (because there was simply no budget for that purpose), private businesses, NGO’s,
Private individuals and local government were tapped to solicit donations to cover the effort
of repair and maintenance of the school together with some initiatives of stakeholders. It
was earlier on August 14, 2023 when the school physical facilities that need repair and
maintenance. After this the steering committee headed by this year Chairman Neil Henry L.
Dela Cruz planned different school activities for Brigada Eskwela.

Early morning of August 14, 2023, the teachers of Paglaum Elementary School
opened the school that signaled the start of Brigada Eskwela. Afterwards a short program
followed. The presence of different groups of volunteers was acknowledge. Short Orientation
about the mechanics of the 5- day activity was given by our Brigada Coordinator together
with the Teachers and School Head. Finally, the opening of the Brigada Eskwela was
announced. The willing and able brigade included School head and Active teachers,
enthusiastic parents, excited pupils, SPG officers and other concern people of the
community.

The school is an institution which is responsible in molding the learners into a

responsible individual in the society. This is where one is crafted into a better person, who
will be an emblem of the kind of learning center where he was raised. The multifarious
concern of school demands working with others to accomplish designed tasks and
objectives. These would need dedicated and persevere school personnel, cooperative
parents, accountable community and innovative learners. DepEd Memorandum otherwise
known as National Schools Maintenance Week or commonly called Brigada Eskwela, aims
to prepare the school one week before its formal opening of classes. The said activity was
disseminated on fourth week of July 2023 through the School head. Thus, the group came
up with the decision to have schedules to help for the duration of the week-long
implementation of the program. It turned out as part of the Barangay Clean and Green
Program in which Barangay aide personnel was assigned during the BE period. Believing
that the community cannot stand without the school, and likewise the school without the
community, we greatly believe that the school is the face of
the Barangay. Thus, all the people in the community even those whose children were
not studying in the school gave a hard and volunteered to support the program. Therefore,
the teachers are very much in needs to the Barangay folks for without them, the following
would not have been made possible.
1. Cleaning of the school grounds
2. Pruning/ trimming of trees around the school
3. Fixing of garbage disposal
4. Repairing of classroom
5. Repainting of Balusters in Grade 1- 6 classes.
6. Repair of Classroom ceiling/ roofing
7. Repair of dilapidated chairs
8. Repainted of arm chairs
9. Repairing and Fixing of Bulletin boards
10. Cleaning of classrooms and office.
11. Repainting roofs, fences

Funds were procured through solicitation from Provincial Government, Local

Government Unit (LGU) and PTA, teacher’s shares and initiatives.

With their unselfish cooperation and invaluable support of the barangay/ community
people, the Brigada Eskwela in Paglaum Elementary School turned out to be a successful
one.
