Duct heaters heat up the air that flows in @ ducting system. The duct heater can be delivered in the desired size (round or rectangular). Depending on the minimum air flow, the surface load will be set. Experience the difference by choosing Al-Andalusia duct heaters for your project. Duct heaters are used in forced air applications to provide dedicated space heat or to supplement existing heating systems. Typical applications are: * Space heating * Primary heating * Secondary and/or auxiliary heating * Reheat * Multi-zone and VAV systems + Replacement wwwandalosia.com Features * A disconnecting magnetic control contactor per stage or each 48 AMP circuit within a stage * Automatic limit switch for primary over temperature protection * Manual reset limit switch for secondary over temperature protection. * Left hand offset control box. *+ 50 HZ design * Fan interlock * Power terminal board * Control terminal board * Bi-directional airflow in horizontally mounted applications * Hinged access cover with latch * All limit controls are resettable * Proven wire rack system provides very low pressure drop and extended element life * Zero clearance rating for installations into ducts eas i @ Andalosia..- CONSTRUCTION Control panel * Removable hinged access door * Detailed wiring diagram * Configurable with left or right offset 1- Airflow Switch Fan Interlock switch Optional airflow switch senses air pressure across the heater surface closing the electrical switch and allowing the heater to activate. This switch is available with fixed or adjustable set point. 2- Disconnect Switch ‘A door interlocking disconnect switch is used to prevent the control door from being opened until power to the heater is disconnected. 3 - Power Fusing 4 - Terminal Blocks Terminal blocks are standard on all heaters for quick and easy integration with field installed control wiring. 5 - Contactors Disconnecting contactors. break all ungrounded lines on duct heaters and There are two types available: Magnetic - standard for all heaters. 3 6 - Control Transformer Control transformers are used to provide single point wiring when the control voltage differs from the line voltage. The transformer is available as fused or unfused. wwwandalosia.com 7 - Capacity Controls Pneumatic controls allow @ pneumatic building control system to operate heaters wit up to three stages. An airfiow switch is standard with this option. 8 - Elements Standard heater elements are 60% Ni grade C wire which exhibit excellent performance in standard applications. Elements are supported with a wire rack system that significantly reduces element sag and pressure drop. Optional features include: * 80/20 NiCr, grade A element wire provides superior corrosion resistance in reheat and high humidity applications. * Derated coils aid in longer element life in single and mult-zone air handler applications. ea SS i @ Andalosia...- DUCT HEATER HOW TO SIZE To calculate the amount of heat required in Kilowatts (kW), knowing the volume of airflow in cubic feet per minute (CFM) and the temperature rise is in degrees Fahren- heit (AT) that is required for the application, the required kilowatt (kW) rating of the heater can be determined from the formula: kW = (CFM x AT)/3160 For most comfort heating applications, the duct heater will be specified to provide heat in steps. These steps of heat will be specified by either the AT between the steps or the kW rating between steps. The table below shows the recommendations for both the AT difference and the kW difference between steps. To calculate Minimum air velocity required for the duct heater is determined from the charts below. A typical tubular heater with 600 feet/minute face velocity has .60 inches of water pressure drop, while the same size open coil heater with the same face velocity has only .03 inches of water pressure drop. Insert heater and fasten to the duct using sheet metal screws through the control enclosure. Use extreme caution in protecting the electrical compo- nents, as metal chips lodged in the components can cause failure. Remove any metal chips that may be located in the electrical enclosure before connecting power. NOTE: To prevent element section from moving inside duct, angle clips, brackets, or blank offs should be attached to frame.
