COURSEWORK 2

This coursework item is to be undertaken as an individual exercise. It is worth 25 percent of the

total mark and the deliverable is to be submitted by 4:00pm of 14 March 2023 in the MyELearning
submission folder provided. Although students may collaborate, there shall be no duplicate
submissions since this is an individual project exercise.

A rectangular and flat parcel of land of size 220 m by 150 m, as shown in Figure 1 below (not to
scale), is to be developed as a housing estate. There is a main outfall drain to the north of the
parcel, and there are roadways on the western and southern edges of the parcel only. Each house is
to be 2-story, and sewage treatment is to be via septic tank and soakaway on each lot.

Making any assumptions deemed suitable, do the following:-

1. Provide at least one plan view sketch showing the layout of the houses, and all other civil
engineering systems of the development, excluding the sewage system. [50 %]
2. Provide sketches of transverse sections views of each civil engineering system of the
development. This shall include overall dimensions but details such as steel reinforcement
are not required. [50 %]

[Hint: Survey your environment to determine typical sizes and arrangements of housing lots, civil
engineering systems, etc.]

Each sketch shall be a scaled hand drawing in dark pencil on 11 inches x 17 inches sheet. Standard
drawings conventions shall be used including labelling by hand. Each sketch shall be saved as a pdf
and the batch of sketches collated as a single zip file and uploaded to MyELearning in the folder
provided. The checkbox which is presented for indicating the absence of plagiarism shall be clicked-
on.
