CONCEPT AND OBJECTIVE

Coast Guard, NDRF and other allied search and rescue organizations
carry out many underwater search operations which include surface
water rescue or deep-water rescue and are also engaged in the
search of fatal victims. Because of murky water and limitations, the
current SONAR system is less accurate. It becomes difficult for them
to carry out search operations in a timely and safe manner.
Challenges include less precision and manoeuvrability, and less
visibility in murky waters. Presently the underwater equipment used
is based on the SONAR system, which has some disadvantages. The
system generates a lot of noise which depends on sound levels
generated by SONAR. The acoustic waves used in SONAR are
affected by sound velocity variations over depth. This causes the
refraction of acoustic energy. The objectives that we are trying to
solve is:
Able to carry out underwater inspections in an effective, safe,
and timely manner with high precision and manoeuvrability,
capable of visibility in murky waters
Equipped with Intelligent software and high-quality sensors that
do underwater inspections and also provide a set of images out
of sensors for Data analytics

INNOVATION

Our team NAUTICA has developed a UUSAV ( Unmanned


Underwater SearchAnalysis Vehicle). The working of the rover is
similar to that of a conventional submarine but very easy to
manoeuvre. This UUSAV would perform multipurpose operations in
rivers and seas. Since we are currently making a prototype, we are
expecting the rover to go to a depth of around 30 meters. Since
effective detection of subsea wreckages is needed we have come
up with the idea of providing the rover with a 4K camera, Depth
camera, thermal camera, water quality sensors, LIDAR and SONAR,
also with a powerful subsea light. Suitable software for providing
the needed onsite data analytics will be provided to the portable
monitoring system so that we get instant results. The Rover has
been powered by an external power supply as it would increase the
efficiency of the operation since the operational capacity and time
can be increased. Our system would provide live feeds via high-
speed LAN cable, of the wreck through normal imaging, thermal
imaging and also with the ability to provide a 3D mapping. The
ability to provide on-spot 3d mapping of the wreck provides the
better ability for the operators to understand the nature of the
wreck and would help the NDRF team to perform fast and secure
rescue, recovery and survey operations.

Since our rover is very small and easy to manoeuvre, we can employ
it for various applications. The rover can be made available in
multiple configurations by making it modular, i.e. providing various
accessories that can be easily attached to perform any of the below
