Assignment: Assessment and Evaluation

Watch the attached videos below

Based on the videos, cite examples of scenarios where formative assessment methods
can be applied in health teaching/patient education.
 Formative assessment is the assessment that gather ongoing feedback from the
learners. It is continuous and is used in various educational contexts and is
gathered during the learning process.
Based on the video a sample of scenarios where formative assessment can be
applied are:
1. Hand Signal: One to Five – It is a sample of formative assessment where
the educator assesses the extent of learning of the students during in
the middle of the class through their rate scale and using their fingers
having one finger at lowest and five finger at highest. This is a way of
assessment for a large group of students.
2. Brainstorming – It is the where prior the lessons students are asked
about their own understanding of certain topic enabling the educator to
assess the current understanding of the students on the certain topics.
This assessment encourages the students to share their thoughts and
ideas freely fostering an active engagement and improvement.
3. Exit Tickets – It is where at the end of the lesson, the student can provide
a brief summary or answer specific questions to indicate their
understanding before they leave the classroom. Moreover, it is best for
assessing a lesson’s overall objective or goal.
4. Think-Pair-Share – It is where the educator provide questions that is to
be discussed by a group of pairs and compared in between the
members. Later on, inputs will be shared on the entire class and such
assessment will serve as a good classroom activity.
5. Individual whiteboards – It is where the student has a whiteboard and
will be given a question that will be answered directly by writing the
answer. In this scenario the learner’s understanding will be immediately
assessed by the educator depending on the condition of their
participation. Thus, this approach is a good simultaneous assessment
and re-teach.
These scenarios illustrate how formative assessments are used to inform
instructional decisions and support students' ongoing learning and growth.
Based on the videos, cite examples of scenarios where summative assessment methods
can be applied in health teaching/patient education.
 Summative assessment is the assessment that gather overall feedback from the
learners. It is the summarization of the learning of the students. Thus, it is an
important factor for decision making and promotion of better learning styles for
student as needed.

Based on the video the sample of scenarios where summative assessment can be
applied are:
1. Portfolios: It is where the students compile a collection of their work over
a period of time, showcasing their achievements, growth, and
understanding in various subjects.
2. Projects: It is where the students exhibits their understanding of the
overall topic through different material.
3. Interview: It is where the students are being asked simple questions and
the educator can evaluate the learner’s understanding through their
answer.
4. Essays: It is where the students synthesizes their gained knowledge
through writing.
5. Tests: It is where the students take tests or series of questions that cover
all of the course material at the conclusion of a semester or academic
year. These tests evaluate their general subject knowledge and
comprehension suitable for concluding the lesson.
6. Presentations: It is where the students complete a presentation that
demonstrates their understanding of the course material.

Summative assessments are effective tools for assessing students' overall

performance and offering a thorough picture of their academic development. They
are essential in informing educators about the knowledge and skills of students
and informing them about important educational decisions.
