Installation Procedures 1-10
Prepare the Work Area
1 Start by disconnecting the ground wire from
the starting batteries. Set up your work light
and clear the sleeper compartment of loose 37”
items.
Floor Insulation
2 Determine approximate location for the
Phoenix unit. Measure 37 inches from the
driver side sleeper door and 4 ½ inches 4.5”
from the rear wall liner. This will position the
Phoenix unit so the area between the 2
condenser openings will be centered above Floor Support
under truck
the floor cross member. Remove the floor
insulation as shown, exposing the floor of
the sleeper.

Installation Procedures 1-16
Install Mounting Feet
25
The Phoenix unit has 8 pre-dimpled
locations. Fasten feet in the 4 locations
matching the predrilled holes from page 13
step 5. Use 1″ x 5/16 hex head self- drilling
screws. Do not install feet where the
case is not dimpled or you will damage
the unit.

Installation Procedures 1-17
Controller Location
29 On this model, the location for the controller
is stamped in the back of the OE panel.
Place the controller template in the area to

Sliding it at an angle inside the OE duct and
inserting one side of the pivot in one of the
holes. Once you have one side installed,
you can squeeze the OE duct to create an
egg shape and slide the other end into the
pivot hole. The assembled duct and door
should resemble the photo to the right. It
should swing freely inside the duct. If the
door binds it could block air from the OE
bunk unit. Please operate the bunk unit
when finished to check gravity door
operation.

Electrical Installation
NOTE: Bergstrom does not condone putting batteries under the sleeper
bunk. The floor is not designed to carry that amount of weight and even
deep cycle AGM batteries can emit gas under certain circumstances.
Bergstrom can only support batteries being placed in battery boxes or tool
boxes designed to support the weight of the batteries outside the cab of
the truck.

Steel Battery Box Installation
1 Locate the battery box on the frame as close as possible to the sleeper
NITE Phoenix unit. When positioning the box, always keep the top of the
box as close to the top of the frame rail as possible – Some
manufacturers recommend no drilling within 2″ of top or bottom of frame
rail. Check truck manufacturer guidelines prior to drilling. Using box as
template, mark and drill a minimum of 4 holes. Always use the holes in
the rear outer corner area where you have double walled steel. Of the 3
holes available on each side of the outer most edge of box, choose the
top and center holes on each side (see photo A). Drill frame rail using ½″
HS bit. Install box with ½″ grade 8 bolts and hardware provided. Tighten
securely.

Step 1: Make and install the two short battery cables. These cables
connect the positive (+) of one battery to the negative (-) of the other to
create a set or bank. We refer to this as a series connection. See
drawing below. DON’T connect any other cables or wires to these
terminals.
Step 2: For the positive to positive parallel connections, measure and cut
a piece of red cable to the proper length. Attach a ring terminal to each
end using a professional grade crimper. Place heat shrink around each
terminal and heat. Then loom it. Use this cable to connect the positive (+)
of one bank of batteries to the positive (+) of the other bank of batteries.
