Fall 2023

“Fall Splendour, Pastel 12”x16”

This newsletter was supposed to go out earlier but September is always such a
busy time. Classes started again and I am happy to see such a good turnout. We
are all eager to return and share in a creative environment! It helps when nature
puts on such a glorious display to inspire us!
I am about to leave for my next painting holiday, this one to Le Vieux Couvent in
the south of France and my group of artsy travelers is excited. The countryside
we are staying in south of Toulouse is known for its picturesque villages that we
can’t wait to visit and paint.

“Bonne Auberge, Pastel 16”x20” “The Village Below”, Pastel 16”x16”

Those of you enjoying the fall at home may want to revisit your own
neighbourhoods where the colours of fall may have transformed an ordinary
street scene or park into something asking to be painted! Our nearby mountains
may call us. Autumn never disappoints with the brilliant larches and often a skiff
of snow on the mountain tops!

Once back from France, I am looking forward to do my annual trip to Toronto for
two days of “art gazing” at the Toronto International Art Fair. I love seeing
what’s being offered right now by galleries from around the world. I always go
home reinvigorated!

Oct. 26-29, 2023 at the Toronto Convention Centre

Having a little mosey around Toronto does not hurt either! So many interesting
neighbourhoods and photo opps:
I won’t be home for Thanksgiving but here’s an idea for those of you who are.
Subject matter is everywhere!

“Thanksgiving Still Life”, Pastel 11”x14”

Art show season is also upon us again. Parkdale is having their Show & Sale,
Saturday, October 21. I invite you to pop in and see what everyone has
produced in the many classes offered there!
I am also pleased to announce that an Acrylic Instructional Book is in the works,
something I spent my summer preparing for. It will contain much of the wisdom I
have gathered over the years, concentrating on the few steps it takes to
produce a successful work of art! Watch for it early in the New Year!
The Winter issue of Pastel Journal will also again see an article I contributed to
their “Pastel Voyages” section where I talk about one of my Art-at-Sea Alaska
sailing adventures.

Wishing you a wonderful fall season, a great time of year to pause, reflect and
plan for the long creative winter season ahead. What are your plans for your
artmaking?

Keep well, keep in touch!

Best wishes!
