• Use already in positive sentences to describe an action which
happened before. (usually earlier than expected)
– When are you going to finish your essay?
– I’ve already written it.
• Use just to describe a very recent event.
– Cathy has just called from the airport.
• Use yet in questions and negative sentences
– Have you finished this book yet?
– No, I haven’t finished yet. I’m on page 140.

FOR VS SINCE
• We use FOR with a period of time (how long):
– We’ve been married for twelve years. (Suntem casatoriti de 12 ani.)
• How long ... ? + Present Perfect to ask about something that started in
the past and is still happening now
• Example:
• How long has he lived in Chicago? (he is still in Chicago)
• How long have you known each other? (you know each other)
• How long have you been together? (you’re still together)
