II. Quick Setup Guide

1. Installing the Device

Before you open the smart2K/V2 casing, make sure the position of the key
is in vertical position (front terminal facing you). If the key is in horizontal
position, then the case is still locked.
Open the back casing of smart2K/V2 by pulling the upper portion of the
back plate. If you cannot open the case, try to open it with a tool. Put the
tool inside the back plate hole and pull the back plate using the tool.
After you open the casing, put the back plate on the wall. Firmly secure with
4 Screws or nails as appropriate for the surface.
Do not plug in the AC adaptor until directed to do so.

2. Wiring the Power Supply (Adaptor)

Connect the positive (+) part of the +9 Vdc Power Supply (Adaptor) wire to pin 2 of
the screw board and the negative (–) part to pin 1. Then, plug the power supply
(Adaptor) to 110Vac power outlet. WARNING: do not reverse the voltage (do not
connect + to – or – to +)

3. Wiring the communication cable

• For RS 232 direct cable, you can connect the TX wiring to the 4th position of
the screw board, RX to the 3rd position, and GROUND to the 5th position
through the big square hole of the back plate of smart2K/V2.
• For RS 485 direct cable, you can connect the D wiring to the 14th position of
the screw board and the D* to the 15th position through the big square hole
of the back plate of smart2K/V2.

4. Powering the Device

When you finished wiring the Power Supply and the communication cable, close
the back plate tightly and lock the back casing (get the key in horizontal position).
Then Press the power button on the top left hand corner of the smart2K/V2 keypad
to turn on the device. The following screen will appear.

You can choose two different connections:

A. Serial Communication RS-232

smart2K/V2 is equipped with two RS232 standard communication
channel, however the two port have no hardware differences. COM0 and
COM1 are communication port to a PC or as a port for auxiliary reader
or as a communication port to a serial printer. The cable scheme must
be as follows:

Pin 2 Rx Tx 3 or 9
Pin 3 Tx Rx 4 or 10
Pin 5 GND GND 7 or 12

B. Serial Communication RS-485

The RS-485 is ‘Half Duplex’ with packets communication system. The

protocol permit up to 255 terminal to be handle per host, however it’s
potential to connect up to 31 terminal to apiece section RS-485
communication line. The RS-485 PCI Card hold up 2 RS-485 lines. The
smart2K/V2 necessity all be connected in parallel, retaining the same
polarity along every line.

1.2 V Nicad and batteries recharge with constant power supply of current.
While batteries are flat, the data in memory will be retained because of the
lithium battery keep the data. It means the rechargeable batteries only keep
the power system of smart2K/V2 not the data.
A fully charged battery should function at least 4 uninterrupted hours. The
best possible charge is reached after 10 hours of uninterrupted recharging.
