ASSESSMENT

Gravitas, physical presence, communicating with presence, and connecting with others are four key aspects of
executive presence.

Analyze a recent situation where you needed to make an impression. Identify the characteristics of the four aspects
of executive presence that you feel you successful demonstrated and the characteristics for which you need
improvement.

Gravitas
To project gravitas, you need to identify your own style and stay true to it.

Poise: Poise is an expression of


composure that shows others you're
comfortable in your surroundings and
able to handle adversity.
Self-assurance: Self-assurance is a

works to convince others that you have
the personal resources and resolve to
lead.

Physical presence
Your appearance, body language, voice, and physical movement make up your physical presence. Careful attention
must be paid to improving these attributes, so you can project yourself in a way that commands presence.

Appearance: Have a neat,


professional appearance.

Body language: Have good, open


posture. Stand or sit up straight and
take up space.

Voice: Speak clearly and loudly


enough to be heard. Avoid filler
language, and speak at a steady pace.

Physical movement: Move around


instead of staying behind the podium.

Communicating with presence


Your clarity and conciseness of thought and ability to focus on tasks and communicate your message make up your
mental focus.

you're telling the truth.

of mind before you go in. Find out
what helps you to stay calm and feel
strong.

Connecting with others


The best way to connect is to identify your communication style challenges, work to overcome them, and learn how
to read and adapt to the styles of others.
