Begin task:
“Like I said earlier, I want you to make play dough by yourself. Therefore, I
am not going to talk to you very much. If you have a problem, try to solve it
by yourself. Follow the directions in this the recipe book. [Point at the book]
The supplies and ingredients to make play dough are in this box. [Point at
the box] The water is in the faucet and the microwave is on the counter.
[Point out the water faucet and microwave]. Do you have any questions?
You may begin when you are ready. ”
**Begin timing immediately after stating “You may begin when you are ready.”**
Examiner, please note: During step 7, “mix all ingredients”, you the examiner
must visually determine the consistency of the play dough to ensure the quality of
the final product. As you watch the child mix, if the play dough is too moist or
soupy, add flour until it is the right consistency. The child may have added too
little flour or too much water, so you must adjust. Just say, “I am going to add
some flour to the play dough for you.” Do this as they mix…. Do not penalize
them for this.
