UNIT: WORK ENERGY & POWER TASK 3

INSTRUCTION:

Don’t forget to write the unit with your answers.

Q: Solve the numericals:

 P.E= mgh
 WORK= F*S
 K.E= ½ mv2
 Power= W or E / Time
 Force= ma
 Weight= mg

1. An object with 10kg mass is raised to a height of 15m. Find the potential energy possessed by
the object at that height.

Given g=10m/s2
2. Calculate the power of an electric motor that can lift 800 kg of water to store in a tank at a
height of 15m in 20s. (g=10m/s2).

Data: mass = 800 kg; d= 15m; t= 20 s; g= 10 m/s2; P=?

3. Calculate the electrical energy consumed in Joules if a toaster of 800Watt is used for 18sec.

4. An object is horizontally dragged across the surface by a 100 N force acting parallel to the
surface. Find out the amount of work done by the force in moving the object through a distance
of 8 m.
5. A boy pulls a 1 kg toy wagon along a smooth (i.e. no friction) horizontal floor over a distance
of 5 m. If the speed of the wagon increases at a constant rate of 2 m/s2, what is the work done by
the boy?

Data: mass = 1kg; s= 5m; a= 2 m/s2

6. A car is travelling at a velocity of 20 m/s and it has a mass of 300 Kg. Compute its Kinetic
energy?
7. A jogger whose mass is 100kg is moving at a speed of 7m/s. What is the jogger’s Kinetic
Energy?
