“What I really love about Rio is the sense of community you feel from every part of the
school. Whether it be the faculty, students, or alumni, everyone is always so inviting and
friendly. And that really helps with being so far away from home, it makes it feel like you
can rely on so many people for whatever you need. A true home away from home.”

One of the most incredible things

about Rio is the fact that as well as
diving into the American lifestyle
there is also an international
community. This part of Rio helps
make home feel not as far away
while also getting to experience
a whole new culture. As well as
this, everyone here at Rio is so
welcoming, especially to the
international students as they know
what a big change this is for us, and
the help and kindness they give is
like no other. This University is truly
one of a kind.

At Rio Grande, you become part of our residential communities. Each
of our four residence halls offers something unique to each student.
First-year housing includes Boyd Hall (male) and Davis Hall (female).
All residence halls have 24-hour visitation rights.

Residence halls feature double-occupancy rooms and come furnished

with a bed, desk, chair, and wardrobe. Private room upgrades may be
available for an additional cost. All halls also have communal areas,
free on-site laundry, high speed Wi-Fi, and student housing staff.

MEAL PLANS
Dining on campus provides the social experience essential to campus
life. It gives you the opportunity to gather with friends, take study
breaks, hang out, and relax after a hard day of classes and activities.
Residential students receive 19 meals per week through the Total
Living Plan, along with points to use at our off-campus partners.

Commuters can purchase “Storm BUCKS”, which provide flexibility to

use towards meals at the campus cafeteria and coffee shop as well
as local restaurants and the bookstore.

ment, and campus events and traditions.

Beyond our competitive athletic teams, Rio has numerous student

groups on campus, including extracurricular, co-curricular, and
Greek organizations. Joining in on the fun is easy at Rio, whether
you are a singer, fisher, movie buff, gamer – or want to try these
out for the first time. We aim to be inclusive of all student interests

MENTAL HEALTH
As a student, you may experience a range of issues that can cause
barriers to learning, such as strained relationships, increased anxiety,
alcohol/drug problems, feeling down, difficulty concentrating and/ or
lack of motivation. These mental health concerns or stressful events
may lead to diminished academic performance or reduce your ability to
participate in daily activities. We offer confidential counseling services
to all students regardless of personal circumstance so that you can
thrive and succeed as a Rio student.

APPRECIATIVE ADVISING
Appreciative Advising is the practice of working collaboratively with
students to understand their goals and dreams. This approach will
help influence the student decision-making process through the
college experience and beyond.

Our Student Success Coaches intentionally spend time building

rapport and trust (Disarm) with you. Your success coach will learn
about your journey to Rio, strengths, skills, and abilities (Discover).
We will challenge you to Dream about your future, and then co-create
a plan (Design), to help you achieve (Deliver) your goals. Finally, we
challenge you to reach your true potential, while celebrating your
