WESTERN
Western Culture are more liberals than Eastern one.
Western culture allows people to be more open minded
and critical.
A person from western countries is more free and
flexible to reach decision on his / her own.
In the western world, elderly person’s welfare becomes
the responsibility of the state in collaboration with
children or other close relatives.
Western religions are monotheistic in that only one God
is worshipped. Western religions are those religions
that are practiced in most other countries outside of the
East.
western education focuses on creativity and allows
individuals to develop as much as they can.Students in
western culture are encouraged to actively participate
in debates and ask questions.
EASTERN
Eastern culture is emphasized on religion and social
norm. One of the the examples, People prefer to
approach by using good manners and tact, not
aggression.
A person from Eastern Countries makes a decision
collectively by discussing to his or her own family.
In the eastern world, the elders are considered as a
sacred and most respectable persons, children do what
the elders say without questioning them. Any important
decisions to do with a child are generally made by an
elder. When parents grow old, children are often the
ones who take on the responsibility for caring for them.
the types of religions in eastern cultures, such as Islam,
Hinduism, Shenism, Buddhism, Jainism and Taoism.
Clothing and rituals are so different in eastern cultures,
like Indians paying respect to parents or elders by
touching his/her feet. East Asians bow down as a
gesture used when welcoming guests, saying thank you
and apologizing. When it comes to ideologies and
beliefs, eastern cultures find it difficult to question
them despite what they might really feel.
In Eastern education, achievement is linked to struggle
and hard work. This means you can achieve anything if
you work hard enough. Students from eastern cultures
often excel academically.
ANALYSIS:

1. Do you agree with the differentiation between the West and the East?

Yes, especially in terms of culture because Eastern and Western have extremely distinct cultures that
can be easily recognised. We differentiate based on religion, culture, education, society, and so forth.

2. Where can you find the Philippines in the distinction?

The Philippines is an Asian country, but the Philippines is a culture in which East meets West. The
Filipino people have a distinct Asian background with a strong Western tradition. Modern Filipino
culture developed through the influence of Chinese traders, Spanish conquistadors, and American
rulers. The background of the people is Indonesian and Malay. There are Chinese and Spanish elements
as well. The history of American rule and contact with merchants and traders culminated in a unique
blend of East and West, both in the appearance and culture of the Filipinos, or people of the Philippines.

Since we became colonized by Spain for 333 years, we adopted some of its culture, especially its
religion, which is Christianity, and way of life. Next, we were colonized by the American people for 48
years, from whom we also adopted the languages and some of the culture, as well as the other
countries that colonized us, such as Japan. So we share a lot of similarities with Western countries.

3. What are the factors that make the Philippines similar or different from its Asian neighbors? Is
there also a difference between regions or ethnolinguistic groups in the Philippines?

Filipinos and other Asians are known for their fervent religious beliefs, as are the people of the
Philippines and their neighbors in other Asian countries. We are capable of living our lives in accordance
with the Bible's laws, principles, and passages. Even though we all belong to different religious groups
and there are many different religions in the world today, we all share the belief that only God can
protect us from whatever catastrophe our world may experience.

4. Is there also a difference between regions or ethnolinguistic groups in the Philippines?

The Philippines is a patchwork of cultures, languages, and religions, with up to 175 "different" ethnic
groupings and as many as 175 "separate" languages being spoken there. There are over 200 languages
and dialects spoken on about 7,500 islands, the majority of which are not mutually comprehensible.
Even though many Filipinos are Christians, there are a variety of religions that have been influenced by
colonizers and neighboring countries, and ethnic groups have preserved their religions, such as believing
in god and goddess worship, animism, and Islam.
