During the last 4 years, the 4th year students of our school, out of a total of 240, participated in the

JRS CHANGE
program of JRS. This programme believes that education is crucial to fostering inclusive and welcoming societies.
Through a 6–stage educational course, CHANGE aims to encourage students to think critically about migration,
refugees and living together. Students learn to distinguish facts from opinions, to form their own judgements and to
recognise prejudices and stereotypes. To this end, the focus is on promoting critical thinking skills about the positive
contribution of forced migrants and refugees to society through a combination of a fact-based and narrative course.
It is key to bring their voices to the forefront to inform youth of refugee and migrants’ rights, to share about their
current situations and experiences as well as their hopes for the future. The impact that the program had on each
student is measured thanks to the questioner that is presented to the students at the beginning and at the end of
the program.

At the end of each month students are challenged to reflect and express, in words or symbols, what helped them to
put themselves in the place of the other and what role they want to play in transforming reality.

The best way to see the impact the program was having in our students is to share some of their reflections when
challenged to explore refugee artists or artworks that have refugee’s reality at heart.
In this last
school year,
we had two
activities of
relevant
importance. The Family Fun Day, that was organised by 36 of our students for 58 refugees, adults and children, with
many different activities. A day at everyone, at the end of the day, asked to become a tradition in our School. And
the participation of 6 of our students in the international conference in Brussels, organised by JRS Europe, where
they presented the process and the results of CHANGE in our school.
