ABSTRACT
The objective of the study was to evaluate the effect of Saccharomyces cerevisiae (SC) on
digestibility, growth performance and body condition scoring of karakul Iambs. For this

purpose, thirty male karakul lambs with initial live body weight (13±1 kg) were selected
and randomly divided into three experimental groups in complete randomized design.
Lambs were reared individually in metallic cages having dimensions 1 x 1.25 m2. The trial
duration was 12 weeks. Experimental diets were consisted of different level of SC. The
treatments were T1 (control), T2 (2g SC) and T3 (4g SC). All experimental diets were
offered ad-libitum. Lambs with SC (4g) and SC (2g) treatments attained the higher weight
gain compared to the control T1 treatment (P<0.05). Similarly, improved (P<0.05) growth
rate, feed conversion ratio, and feed efficiency were observed in T2 (4g SC) and T1 (2g
SC) treatments. Moreover, animal feed SC (2g) and SC (4g) had more dry matter intake
(DMI) (P<0.05). Improved digestibility of the dry matter, crude protein and acid detergent
fiber were observed in animal feed SC supplemented diet (P< 0.05). Based on the results,
it is concluded that the addition of SC improved growth performance, body condition
scoring, along with increase DMI, and nutrient digestibility. However, 4g of SC yield better
results and recommended for supplementation in the diet of growing lambs. Similarly body
condition scoring also improved due to SC supplementation
