Lesson Plan in Science Grade 10

Content Standards:
The learners demonstrate an understanding of the chemical reactions associated with
biological and industrial processes affecting life and the environment
Performance Standards:
The learners shall be able to present the chemical reactions involved in biological and
industrial processes affecting life and the environment, using any form of media
Learning Competencies:
The learners should be able to apply the principles of conservation of mass to chemical
reactions S10MT-IV e-g 23

Quarter: 4 Week:7 Day: 5

I. Objective: At the end of the 60 minute period, 100 % of the learners are expected to :
1. Discuss a double replacement reaction
2. Explain the value of give and take relationship
3. Appreciate the different application of chemical reaction
II. Content:
Subject Matter: Double replacement/displacement( metathesis)
Integration:
English –usage of Coordinate conjuction
Mathematics – using the symbol of plus sign ( + ) and quantify the amount as the
subscript number represents the number of atoms in every element
Strategies: Cooperative Learning, Learning station, Inquiry-based Approach, Computer
Aided Instruction , hands –on activity, P.O.E. ( Predict- Observe and
Explain)
References: TG pages 293-294
TM pages 415-418
PROCEDURES: using 7 E’s
III. Learning Tasks:
ELICIT
Video clip presentation

Analyze the video clip presentation and answer the guide questions:
1. What are the different type of chemical reaction?
2. Describe each type of chemical reaction

Possible answers:
1. The different type of chemical reactions are;
1. Synthesis or Combination
2. Analysis or decomposition
3. Single displacement (Metathesis)
4. Double displacement ( Metathesis)
2. The different type of chemical reaction are differ in their reactants that react and the
resulting products after reaction , thus some will combine, decomposed and
displaces.

ENGAGE
Video clip presentation

Analyze the given chemical equation and answer the following guide questions:
Guide questions:
1. How does reactants react to form a products?
2. How does product formed?

Possible answer:
1. Some reactants will combine , decomposed and replace each other forming a different
product in the chemical reaction
2. Different products are formed based on their reaction as they combine , decompose
and displaces each other.

,
EXPLORE

A. Conduct pre-activity discussion about their performance task:

B. Let the learners perform the activity / task
C. Monitor and follow up their task

EXPLAIN

Let the learners present their output and processed their results.

ELABORATE

Discuss further and elaborate the information that can be gathered in

the chemical equation
EVALUATE
Conduct written test:
Predict the product of double displacement/ replacement of the following chemical equation:

1. NaOH + KNO3 _____________

2. HC2H3O2 + NaHCO3 ___________
3. Cu SO4 + NaOH __________

EXTEND

COMBUSTION (Burning) REACTION This when oxygen combines with

a hydrocarbon to form water and carbon dioxide.

ACID-BASE REACTION: This is a special kind of double displacement that takes place
when an acid and base react with each other.
HCl + NaOH ----→NaCl + H2O
