PLANT VISIT NTPC DADRI

As part of our orientation of our PGDM (EM) orientation we are visited the Dadri NTPC
power plant on 14th July 2023. Dadri power plant having 3 types of power generation
capacities like thermal power plant gas breast power plant and a solar power plant. Thermal
power plant executed of by 2 stage the stage one consists of 4 unit 210 megawatt each and
stage 2 consist of 2 unit 490 megawatt each. Normally bituminous coals are used to burn.
The recent addition is the stage 2 at the time of India hosting commonwealth games. As per
environmental regulation the chimney height for 500 megawatt will be 275 m here the
chimney height nearly equals to 260 metre so they declared the capacity is 490 megawatt.
One megawatt power generation needs 3 tons of steam, needs 28,000 ton coal part day
storage capacity of coal is almost 20 days. Check the thermal power plant the stage one
stage 2 total 5 units separated 4 unit for stage one are separated and stage 2 are separated
which separated chimney coal handling plant ash handling plant and other substation and
switchyard accessories. The power plant operate in super critical temperature. High pressure
saturated steam from the boiler coming to the high pressure turbine then then the steam
goes back to the boiler for reheater reheating and then the steam come to the intermediate
pressure and low pressure turbine. Turbine driven boiler feed pump feeds the water to the
boiler . The gas power plant has 6 unit 4 of 139 megawatt each and rest 2 units are 154
megawatt each total capacity will nearly equals to 829 megawatt. Gas power plant capable
to operate on combined cycle. On combined operation each 2 pair of gas turbine have a
separated steam turbine. Very much expensive but though the gas power plant are operated
because the turn on time are very less in terms of 10 to 15 minutes. In thermal power plant
the start-up time will be 5 to 6 hours for quick requirement of power we always rely on the
gas power plant. Separate LDC interfacing are there for demand load and power generation
and feed the power to the power grid are monitored by separate control rooms. The switch
yard control of thermal power station are separate from generation control room but in gas
power plant switch yard control are integrated with power plant control room. Total gas
power plant setup are manufactured by Siemens. In 2013 NTPC Dadri set up a separate solar
power plant having 5 megawatt installed capacity. Total area of solar power plant is 24 acre
22 acre are used for installation of solar power plant almost 21,000 solar panels are installed
all panels are polycrystalline type and black in colour. Consumption for inverter and other
things are nearly 1% to 2%. The ideal temp for optimum output from solar panels are 27° C
and the maximum power generate in February-march and Total setup cost are 4.4 crore
without the land cost solution.
