The function of this object is to be

a multi purpose tool, mainly used
for hiking and being in the
wilderness. It contains multiple
knifes, and a screwdriver. We got
our inspiration from a
switchblade/multi purpose tool.
This drawing was what we
originally imagined it to look like

Designing this took a while

because we needed
everything to fit, especially
since the space was so
small. We went through 4
different prints, altering
something each time. Our
first design had everything
to big and wasn’t very
appealing…

What is Reverse Engineering?

Recreating a product. One of the primary goal of reverse

engineering is recreating a product without using a
blueprint. Using this process, companies can make an
old product and outdated product, a less expensive
version of a product, an obsolete machine part and a
competitor’s product
What are the Benefits of Reverse Engineering?

Reverse engineering provides numerous benefits. In

addition to providing valuable information about
electronic devices and components, reverse engineering
enables manufacturers to improve the efficiency, power,
and quality of finished products
Steps
1. Pre-Screening - identify what you are going to reverse engineer. No matter what you decide to reverse engineer it is
important to understand
2. Research - this step is particularly important when engineers do not have the original product on hand. Materials used can
be incredibly helpful when accurately recreating a reverse-engineered product
3. Disassembly - when the engineer deconstructs the original product, and figures out the inner workings of the object
4. Analyze and Evaluate - this is a great time to make notes of design change suggestions, as well as document any errors
or flaws
5. Create - the engineer can implement design improvements or start working on a new product version
