WHAT IS SEMIOTICS?
Semiotics is the study of the signs & symbols.

A sign is anything that

communicates a message
that is received by a receiver

sculptures, photographs, cartoons,
onomatopoeia or imitations of
the sound, maps, plans.

That sign represents a “cause and affect” relationship between
two concepts, so, they have a physical connection

SYMBOL
Is a type of sign arbitry, because can comes in anyway and conventionally
accepted by society. As arbitry as it is this sign is not related in anyform
with the concept (like the icon with the properties and the index with the
cause-effect relationship), but its a rule accepted where people know this
sign means this concept.
 CODE
Code is a system of signs and
rules to communicate signified.
This combination of signs
acquires a certain value, for
example, the language, barcode
or programming code.

Codes depend on the previous

knowledge and agreement by
the users.
 CONNOTATION
It’s a subjective language, It depends by the context
(location, culture, experiences, intentions, etc.) and the
objective is to convey feelings and emotions.

It’s commonly used in literatura.

DENOTATION
It’s an objective language, the objective is communicate in
a direct way and totally clear. It’s stuck to reality.

It’s no way for interpretations or doubts.
