EE 21 ASSSIGNMENT

1. The most significant difference between a motor and a generator is in their working, that is a
motor converts electrical energy into mechanical energy, whereas a generator converts mechanical
energy into electrical energy.

2. The armature is the winding to which the load is connected.

3. keep in mind the requirements for generator action: a magnetic field, a current-carrying
conductor, and relative motion between the two.
4. To have generator action we need a conductor in a magnetic field AND relative motion between
the two. At rest, our rotor is not moving and the stator's field is. The current through the rotor is
generated because of the relative motion between the stator and the rotor.
5. Faraday's law states that the absolute value or magnitude of the circulation of the electric field E
around a closed loop is equal to the rate of change of the magnetic flux through the area enclosed by
the loop.
6. The two ways of generating a higher voltage in a moving conductor are: 1. Increasing the speed
of relative motion between the coil and the magnet 2. Increasing the strength of magnetic field.
7. it has been calculated that 1 volt is generated for every 100,000,000 (108) lines cut per second.
8. The number of parallel paths in the armature winding of a generator has an effect on the
terminal voltage. Generally, as the number of parallel paths in the armature winding increases, the
terminal voltage will also increase. This is because, with more parallel paths, there is a greater overall
resistance in the winding, which results in a higher voltage drop across the winding. However, it is
important to note that there are other factors that can also affect the terminal voltage of a generator,
such as the load on the generator and the speed at which the generator is running. Therefore, the
relationship between the number of parallel paths in the armature winding and the terminal voltage
is not always straightforward.
